Blanche A. "Dumas" Killgore

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Dec. 29, 2006 for Blanche A. Killgore, 83, lifelong resident of Purcell. She died Christmas Day, Monday, Dec. 25, 2006 at Purcell Municipal Hospital.
Blanche A. Dumas was born Aug. 7, 1923 in Purcell, the youngest of eight children of Joseph A. Dumas and Rosa A. Bessette Dumas. She attended the old Johnson School through the eighth grade.
She met the love of her life, Ronald "Ron" Killgore, and they were married Nov. 20, 1943 in Lexington. They made their first home on the old Dumas place where Blanche grew up. After a fire destroyed the old farmhouse when Donnie and Sharon were small children, Ron and Blanche built a brick home 1/2 mile from the Dumas place in the early 1950s. This was the first brick house built in the area, and their family farm was between Purcell and Washington. Five children were raised at this treasured home, which is still intact. Blanche and Ron were married for 34 years until Ron's sudden death March 3, 1978. In December 2004 she moved next door to her daughter, Sharon, because of failing health and lived there until her death.
Blanche was fondly known by her siblings as "Sis," and the nickname was carried on by all of her relatives as "Aunt Sis." She was very proud of her home where she enjoyed feeding hummingbirds and had a bluebird house. Blanche was a caring homemaker who worked hard as the wife of a farmer/rancher. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will always be remembered for her stick-to-your-ribs cooking and especially her homemade cobblers, pecan pie and fresh apple cake. She had an eye for detail and was very precise in everything she did, from the way she dressed to spreading butter on toast. All those who knew her delighted in her wit and spirited sense of humor. She always had the ability to laugh at herself first or right along with everyone else.
She dearly loved her children and family, and held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her black and white cat, Snickers, brought her much joy and was her faithful pet for many years. She enjoyed playing bingo, and Tri-Ominoes at family get-togethers and poker with her girlfriends. She made many pilgrimage trips with The Golden Agers senior church group, and made several trips to Hawaii where her oldest son, Don, and his family lived. She was a devout Catholic and faithful member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Purcell, a former president of the church's Altar Society, and a former Eucharistic minister. Blanche had also been a breast cancer survivor since 1996.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald O. Killgore, March 3, 1978; her parents, Joseph and Rosa Dumas; one granddaughter, Candace Keiko Killgore, Aug. 20, 1976; three sisters, Marie Cotner, Ella Gullion and Jettie Wallace and four brothers, John, Harvey, Albert and William "Bill" Dumas.
She is survived by her children, Donald "Don" Killgore and his wife, Eloise, of Aiea, HI, Sharon Karth and her husband, Bob, of Washington/Purcell, Maria Pope and her husband, Gary, of Norman, T.J. "Tom" Killgore and his wife, Connie, of Owasso and Ronald "Ron" Killgore and his wife, Joy, of Eugene, Ore.; one sister-in-law, Margaret Killgore; ten grandchildren, Meredith Killgore, Jolene Benne and her husband, Robert, Russell Andrews and his wife, Amy, Lisa Watkins and her husband, Paul, Amy Minson, Jacob Andrews and his wife, Gina, Sara Pope, Anna Pope, Megan Pope and Julian Killgore; four great-grandchildren, Alexis Andrews, Evan Andrews, Holly Minson and Michael Watkins and a host of other family and friends.
Rosary services were held Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel, led in prayer by Angie Wallace. Mass of Christian Burial was held at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Purcell Dec. 29, 2006 with the Rev. Michael Vaught and the Rev. Bill Ross officiating. Music was provided by Denise Clark, Dr. Bryan Dye, Tom Miller, Tara Keeler, Lisa Carrasco, Tina Madden and Tom Deger. Pallbearers were Joe Wallace, Mark Wallace, Jackie Andrews, Larry McAlister, Eddy Jones and Elton Watkins. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Dr. Bryan Dye, the Rev. Bill Ross, the Rev. Gerard MacAuley, The Golden Agers and Our Lady of Victory Altar Society. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home.
