Radebaugh Family Biography

Samuel Houston Radebaugh
Samuel H Radebaugh married Rhoda Ellen Beavers on January 9, 1862 Highland Co., Ohio. (source: license application: December 24,1861 Book 7.) The March 1, 1875 Belle Plaine, Sumner County, Kansas shows this family in residence. He was appointed as the postmaster of the Oklahoma Station, Indian Territory on December 30, 1887. When the name was changed to Oklahoma on December 18, 1888, he was reappointed. He continued in this capacity until February 3, 1889. (USPS). "During my first year we shipped out of Oklahoma station over a thousand cars of cattle. We also shipped a car or two of buffalo horns, and a number of cars of bones which had been gathered by enterprising nesters. There were but few buildings in Oklahoma at this time. They were: the depot, the railway agent’s cottage, section house, postoffice, with S. H. Radebaugh as postmaster, the Quartermasters agent’s house, a boarding house run by George Gibson, later occupied by J. H. McGranahan, who succeeded Radebaugh as postmaster, and a stockade, belonging to C. B. Bickford, a contract Government freighter," stated Arthur W. Dunham.
