Three Killed in Skirmish With Posse
Dead Bodies of Bank Robbers Are Brought Back by Sheriff After Fight.
Okmulgee, Okla., Jan. 19-A posse of ten men which left here early today in search for alleged bank robbers returned about noon with the dead bodies of Oscar Poe, Will Hart and Harry Hart. The men killed were engaged in a skirmish with the posse about eighteen miles southwest of this city.
Chief Roach, sheriff, and M.E. Bowman, chief of police, led the posse. Bowman received a slight bullet wound in the hand. (January 19, 1917, Reno Evening Gazette, Reno Nevada - Submitted by S. Williams)



Okmulgee, Okla, Sept. 13-Convicted of attacking a twenty two year old woman on a country road near here on the night of June 23, Ira E. Williams, salesman well known throughout Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri, was sentenced today in the superior court to ninety-nine years in the state penitentiary after a most hard fought and sensational trial. The sentence is the longest ever imposed on a white man for similar offense in Oklahoma's history. (September 19, 1918, Ada Weekly News, Ada Oklahoma - Submitted by S. Williams)

Judge Flees
Okmulgee, Okla.- With the prospect of having two grand juries and the state bank examiner's officer delving into banking affairs here, residents of Okmulgee settled back today to await further developments in the situation growing out of the discharge by Superior Judge H.R. Christopher, on Thursday, of a grand jury investigating the affairs of the defunct Commerce bank. Judge Christopher left the city with his family Thursday evening and his present whereabouts has not been announced. (February 11, 1922, Lima News, Lima Ohio - Submitted by S. Williams)

Kimes Wins New Trial.
Okmulgee, Okla., Sept. 30-Matthew Kimes, notorious outlaw, found guilty of the murder of Police Chief W.J. McAnally at Beggs, Okla., on May 18, and sentenced to death, was granted a new trial here Friday by District Judge James M. Hays.
