2 Children Killed By Gas Explosion at Circus Parade
Okmulgee, Okla., Sept. 29-An explosion of gas escaping from a city main caused the death here Saturday of Betty Kissel, 6, Charlotte Kissel, 4, and the serious injury of their two sisters, Rose Mary and Helen, 8 and 2 years old respectively. The children were standing on a corner in the downtown district watching a circus parade.
Fire shot 15 feet in the air. Scores of persons were standing near the children, but no one else was hurt.
Betty and Charlotte were taken to a hospital, where they died shortly afterward from burns. Rosemary and Helen will recover, physicians say. (September 30, 1923, San Antonio Express, San Antonio Texas -- Submitted by S. Williams)
