The beginnings of all Counties in Oklahoma began when the assigned Indian lands and unassigned lands were open to settlement. Maps have been provided that showed what became the Great State of Oklahoma and the counties made before and after statehood in 1907 when Oklahoma became the 46th State admitted into the Union The maps below shows the changes in The Oklahoma Territory and The Indian Territroy from 1820 thru 1907 when both Territories ceased their exsistence and was divided into counties. |

This is how the State of Oklahoma looked after it became a State in 1907 when it was divided into Counties. Although many of the counties had many people living in them prior to statehood. A very good source of information prior to Statehood can be found in the Chronicles of Oklahoma, which has an online edition and makes very enjoyable reading for anyone interested in the trials of the Sooners of Oklahoma. |
