Sports Players of Seminole County
| Roger Dale Carr was born in Seminole, Oklahoma on July 1, 1952. After going to high school at Cotton Valley (LA)/Enid (OK) he attended Louisiana Institute of Technology. He made his football debut with the NFL in 1974 as a wide receiver with the Baltimore Colts (1974-1981). Over his ten year career in the NFL he also played with the San Diego Chargers (1983) and the Seattle Seahawks (1982). Most people believe that 1976 was Roger Carr's best year, as he hauled in 43 receptions, had 1112 receiving yards and caught 11 TD passes. He was selected to play in the Pro Bowl after the 1976 season. He has since returned as a graduate assistant at Louisana Tech University and is coaching community college football. From 2003-2005 Coach Carr coached highschool football at St. Frederick Highschool in Monroe, Louisiana. |
| Earl Eugene Huckleberry was born in Konawa, Oklahoma on May 23, 1910. He played baseball with the Philadelphia Athletics. He entered the big leagues on September 13, 1935 and played for one year. His only game in the major leagues came on Sept. 13, 1935 when he was the starting pitcher for the Philadelphia Athletics. In that game, Huckleberry pitched 6.2 innings, allowing eight hits, seven earned runs, four walks and striking out two. Despite giving up seven runs, he was the winning pitcher in the game to finish his career with a 1-0 record. He never appeared again in the majors.He died on February 25, 1999 at Seminole, Oklahoma. Will Hunt. During his high school years at Asher, won multiple state titles and was named the 1989 Oklahoma Player of the Year. In college, he won national honors at Seminole Junior College (now Seminole State College) and Louisana State Univerisy (LSU). Later he was drafted into Minor League Baseball by the Detroit Tigers and also played with the independent Northern League. Hunt briefly coached the Indians in baseball and basketball following the retirement of Coach Bowen. He is now an Oklahoma City firefighter and resides in Tecumseh. |
| Virle Gene Rounsaville was born September 27, 1944 at Konawa, Oklahoma. Signed as a non-drafted free agent by Philadelphia Phillies (March 2, 1965). Selected by Chicago White Sox from Philadelphia Phillies in the Rule 5 major league draft (December 1, 1969). His first game being on April 7, 1970. He only played the one year. | Stewart Lynn Stover was born August 24, 1938 at McPherson, Kansas. He attended Seminole High School and went on to the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Stover made his professional debut in the AFL in 1960 with the Dallas Texans. Most people believe that 1961 was Smokey Stover's best year. During his seven year career he also played with the Kansas City Chiefs. |
