FORWARD
Each high school annual is a cross-
reflection of the students school
life. In it are found the records
of their activities, memories, and
achievements of their school days.
It is the purpose of our annual to
do all of this, and to provide a
record, to which we may refer in the
years to come, as a true reminder of
the events of our high school career.
To Mr. Manning
We dedicate this annual to
Mr. Manning, who has, during
the past three years, made
this school a better and more
worth while institution.
Through him we have made progress
towards more profitable
scholastic goals.

PLETUS VETUS
After many previous, but unsuccessful starts, the girls who have
earned letters the past two years, formed a Letter-Girls Club. Pletus
Vetus ("plenty of Pep") was chosen as the name. A constitution was
drawn up, and officers elected officers, as follows: President-Flo Adell
Scarth, Vice President-Janet Gray, Secretary-Treasure-Opal Marr.
The policing of games and encouragement of better school spirit have
been set as goals for the club.
Sharp uniforms of black skirts and white letter sweaters, were chosen
and warrior head emblems ordered.
It is hoped that the club will "Boom" through, and really make a goal
of it.
LETTERMEN CLUB
After being idle for two years, the club finally began functioning
again. The start came when all eligible members met and elected officers
and proposed a constitution. The officers elected were: President-Willard
Phelps, and Secretary-Treasure-Richard Robson. They hope to carry on
in a good strong way, after a slow start.
GIRLS GLEE CLUB
Forty-three girls are taking glee, therefore, it was possible to have
three part harmony.
The Glee sang five Christmas Carols in the Christmas program, given by
the Philomath schools in the High School Gymnasium. They will also sing
for the High School Graduation Exercises.
Each girl has had to perform before the entire Glee; either singing or
playing a musical instrument. They have studied the operas "Carmen",
"Lohengrin", and "Aida".
The quintet is a specialty of the Glee Club. They have sang in the
High School Carnival, the Christmas program, and will sing for the High
School Graduation exercises. The girls in the quintet are: Shirley Day
Betty Pleasant, Betty Jo Rees, Beverly Tunison, and Harlene Edwards.
JAMBOREE
The Jamboree was held in the Philomath High School Gymnasium December
6th. Monroe and Philomath played the first half which was a good game with
both sides playing hard. Monroe won with a close score.
Alsea and Monroe played the next half with Alsea winning. Then Alsea
and Philomath took the floor with Alsea winning again.
This is the first time the Jamboree has been held in Philomath for
several years and everyone enjoyed it.

the girls will think there is a chaperon there.
Mrs. Lennox, her suspicions aroused and her false hair missing appears
and demands explanations. Henry begins introductions and explanations, each
one becoming more involved and farther from the truth.
The police are sent for and a big adue is made when they being to go
into Delicia's bedroom. George finally reappears as himself and the clothes
are given back to Mrs. Lennox.
As the curtains fall on an extremely funny evening's entertainment,

PHS BASKETBALL
The 1946-47 basketball season for Philomath Warriors started December 10,
with our first game of the season with Eddyville. The Warriors
played two games with Eddyville, two with Monroe, two with Alsea, two
with Monmouth, and several with the Davis team, the Airlie Team, and
Philomath Town Team. This was a very disastrous season for the Warriors
who were defeated in every game. The first string was made up of John
Wooster, Willard Phelps, Ernest Davis, Kerwood Barrand, Jerry Beattie,
Louie Williams, Bill Pitt, and Jeri Gray. The Warrior's second string
played nine games and were also defeated in every game.
PHS FOOTBALL
The Philomath Warriors have played six inter-school games and one
town team game. There were two with Alsea, two with Monroe, and two
with Monmouth. The season proved equally as disastrous, as basketball,
for Philomath Warriors were defeated in every contest. The boys going
out for football were as follows: Don Gardner, Glen Day, Richard Robson,
Laverne Beattie, Roland Dow, John McWade, Willard Phelps, Albert Epperly,
Kerwood Barrand, Clifford Johnson, Ben Kisor, Verl Tandy, Ivan Adams, Mgr.
Jerry Beattie, Leland Prather, Melvin Clair, Victor Schweitz, Jeri Gray,
Don Pleasant, Bert Pitt.
John McWade: "What shall I say about the peroxide blondes who made such
a fuss at the ball game?"
Opal Marr: "Say, the bleachers went wild."
Wooster: "I don't see how football players ever get clean!"
Louie: "Silly, what do you suppose the scrub teams are for?"

SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY
The year is 1957 and the place is the city hall in that large flourishing
city of Philomath. The participants are the members of the Senior Class of
1947. They have gathered here for their first get-together in ten years -
which should really be something. Really!!
The meeting is turned over to Dick Bennett who is still in high school.
After all these years in school he should know how to handle such an affair.
Next year his eldest son will be in school with him and with his help maybe
Dick can graduate. Well, there is a chance anyway!!
After the Right Honorable (?) Bennett has called the meeting to order
who should come up but Lois Marie Best, the former Miss Wooster. She
informs us that she has been on "Queen for a Day" and won an electric dish
washer. No siree! No dishpan hands for her now.
Virginia Waldron, now owner of that elite eating place "The Stew Pot"
next approaches. Miss Waldron is still unmarried but says she is having
the time of her life being a bachelor girl. Is she crazy?
Now classmates, we wish to introduce you to Miss Shirley Gypsy Rose
Daniels, a noted ballroom dancer. She will do her new dance "The Flamingo".
You know what a flamingo is don't you? It's a bird of paradise. For this
dance she is accompanied at the piano by Miss Harlene Edwards who is now
featured pianist with Nailhead Jones and his Hillbilly Hicks.
Mae Abercrombie, Virginia Buck and Opal Moore, owners of the A. B. & M.
chain of dime stores come wandering in in mink coats bought from the profits
of their stores. That's where our money goes.
Richard Robson come in but his is followed by a group of ten women. He
says his mistake was when he tried to beat Tommy Manville at this own game.
Game, that is!!
Mrs. Dale Beattie, the former Sally Church, next arrives, accompanied by
the Mr. of course. She informs us that she must leave early to take care
of the little ones at home. Such a life!!
Singing "I Love You Truly" in walks Betty Jo Rees. She says she is getting
in practice so she can sing for Luree's wedding.
Glen Day walks up front and tells that he has bought a haunted house. He
said that pleasant memories of one night spent in such a house at our own
P.H.S. carnival induced him to buy his own. Trying to recapture the past,
eh what?
Miss Pat McCombs, Summits delegate to the U. N. O. comes in and tells us
that the affairs of the world are very puzzling. Phooey - didn't our
mothers tell us that when we were just little shavers?
Marge Maillard, with a Law Book in one hand and Jimmie in the other is
next to arrive. She says she has just about made up her mind to forget Law
and stick to Jimmie. No hurry to decide, though.
Don Gardner, now manager of the Wren Construction Company arrives in the
1947 Buick. It seems his dream was finally fulfilled and he received the
car for Xmas last year. Better late than never, no?
With a jar of his marvelous product, in comes La Verne Beattie. He is
selling a greaseless, odorless cream designed to grow longer eye lashes. Oh
this modern world!!
Howard Gray, masseur in the "Luck Ladies Reducing and Beautifying Salon"
comes sauntering up the aisleway with a very self-confident swagger. He
informs us that the trend in women's figures is toward the slimmer side. But
of course, he is drumming up business. Sarah Russell, a beauty operator in
the same salon says that where Howard leaves off she begins. Puzzling!!
Dragging a set of quintuplets in comes "Daddy Skelton". When asked how
he was doing, Harlan replied he was progressing in a big way. Ha! Ha!
That Harlan always was an exaggerator!!
America's gift to the comedian, that famous radio script writer, Donna
Love next comes in. She is writing for that incorrigible comic, "Pink
Carcass."
With a put-put and a bang Robert Leder comes in, late at that. The reason
he gives is a breakdown in his old Ford. Darned thing, anyway!!
What's that? Someone else arriving at this late hour. No, it couldn't
be!! But it appears to be, none other than Dumpy Dow who has now reached
the magnificent height of 5'8". My, what those atomic power vitamin pills
do for a person.
The meeting proceeds and after business is discussed it is adjourned with
fond goodbys and promises to meet again ten years from date. Farewell.
