Prophecy
The year is 1961, and the senior class of 1951 is meeting at the mansion of
Philomath's mayor, Lynn Farmer. We recall his interest in politics in democracy
class.
The first person to arrive is Patty Sells, who is now a famous artist. She
has just returned from New York. That most distinguished gentleman greeting her
at the door is none other than Robert Christenson. He's the butler at Mayor
Farmer's mansion. He says it is quite a soft job.
All the others have arrived, and how they have changed!
The blond over in the corner is that talented radio star, Hopalong Quetschke.
It seems she's the only cowgirl on radio now. When the others heard her sing
they gave up.
Glen Mulkey has gained fame by being the only person who can make money
selling refrigerators to Eskimoes.
Another person we see is Joyce Wood, P. H. S.'s English teacher now. We
see she has acquired a few grey hairs - wonder why?
The character over at the table eating with chop-sticks is Ben Miller. He
owns Philomath's famous Chinese Laundry.
Seated beside Ben, are Elmer Morford and Iver Olson, Philomath's most important
city officials - Town Dog Catchers. Seems there are two of them, because
one can not run fast enough.
Jay Dee says he's been doing great. It seems he and Francis have formed a
partnership. They're raising goats up on Evergreen.
Joan Pflughaupt now owns her own resteraunt, the "Slop and Slurp". It's
quite a place.
Chuck Maillard, we find, is a professor at Oregon State. Wonders will never
cease.
Neta and Nelda Dow relate their success. They've just made their debut in a
movie called "Double Trouble".
Clifford York is running about getting magazine subscriptions. He's working
his way through college.
Mrs. Beattie, Dona to us, is trying to keep her three sets of twins (all red
heads) from breaking up the furniture.
Mary Ziemke runs an exclusive school for girls. She says she sets an
example for her pupils by being dignified and refined.
Jerald Shroyer is Philomath's prominent millionaire. He owns a dozen
Cadillacs because he liked the different colors.
Edrie is a famous Hollywood columnist. It seems she put Hedda Hopper out
of a job.
Sondra Best arrives a little late. She is Elmer and Iver's secretary. She
is late, because she had to record how many dogs they caught last month.
Beverly Zimmerman has finally written a book - but she is giving them away;
no one will buy one.
Oh! Oh! We almost didn't see Melvin Miller slip in the door. He is the
President of "Be Kind To Cats Society". He was late because he had to stop
and rescue a cat down the street.
The party draws to a close, and everyone looks forward to the next time the
group will meet.
