Monroe-Altitude 394 feet. Population 400. On main line of Portland, Eugene & Eastern Railroad, Portland to Eugene. 18 miles south of Corvallis; nine miles from Junction City, Lane County, on main line of Southern Pacific and on Long Tom river, which empties into Willamette river 10 miles north. Surrounded by rich agricultural and horticultural territory and large body of virgin timber in near vicinity. Farming, dairying, lumbering, fruit growing, flour manufacturing, livestock, etc. Saw mill, flour mills, creamery, cannery, brick and tile factory. High and graded public schools and gymnasium. Catholic and Methodist churches. Commercial Club. Fruit Growers  Association. Prgress Club. Waterworks. Weekly paper. Bank; Capital and Surplus $10,000; Deposits $47,000.
