New Church At Oregon City-Rev. G.H. Atkinson, a missionary of the American Home Missionary Society at Oregon City, writes that a house of worship has been completed for his hearers at that place at an expense of $3,550; $1,530 was raised by subscription, $1,600 by loan. The pew rent will be about $200.

Arrested for Mobbing the Heathen.
Portland, ore., Feb. 25-Nathan L. Baker, of this city, and Al. White, of Oregon
City, who led the mob that drove the Chinese out of Oregon City Sunday night,
were arrested on the complaint of Wong Chung, a Chinese contractor, and taken
before the United States Commissioner, charged with violating section 5519 of
the United States statues. This section, which was passed for the special
protection of negroes against kuklux in 1874, is said to cover the Chinese cases
exactly, and the authorities think the men can be convicted. The prisoners were
released on $600 bail each, and the preliminary examination set for to-morrow.

Ellsworth Bennett and family left for Oregon City, Oregon, last Monday. Ellsworth has rented his farm here and has gone to that distant land to try his luck there. He is steady and industrious young man, and we wish him all the success possible. He will probably do like the rest that leave here, though return in a year or two and be a contented man.

STAGE ROBBERY IN OREGON
Oregon City, Or., July 17-Word has been brought to the
city that the Wilhoit Springs stage has been held up by highwaymen at Howard
hill, a few miles from this city. Henry Mattoon, the driver, and one passenger,
a Portland man, were robbed of their money, about $50.

THERE IS ONE THUG LESS
Outlaw Whose Hands Are Red with Three Men's Blood, Dies by the Bullet.
Oregon City, Ore., May 2-Frank Smith, the desperado who
killed Policeman Hanlon, of this place, last week, and who later killed Sheriff
Shaver and Captain Henderson, of the Oregon national Guard, was killed in the
woods south of New Era, Clackamas County. Smith was surprised in a thicket where
he had hidden, and was shot through the head before he could use his own
weapons. Harry Draper, of Spokane, one of the pursuing posse, had his two
bloodhounds in leash, and they were leading him through the woods on the trail
of the outlaw. The dogs led Draper within three feet of Smith, who was crouching
behind a leg, before Draper saw him.
"Are you Smith?" Draper demanded. "Yes," was the
answer, and as Smith made reply he attempted to draw his revolver from the
inside of his coat. Draper was quicker with his own weapon and sent a bullet
crashing through Smith's temple.

FRENZIED HUSBAND DEALS OUT DEATH
Oregon City, Or. March 23- Wm. W. Henderson shot and killed his wife, shot her
father, Joseph D. Maxwell of La Trove, Cal and then killed himself. The old man
is probably fatally wounded. The Hendersons formerly lived in San Francisco,
where they ran a hotel until the earthquake. Henderson is alleged to have
threatened his wife and two months ago she came here and brought suit for
divorce. Her husband followed here.
Maxwell is alive, but the chances for his recovery is
slight.
