Very little is known about the Southport School or Davis Slough school. A chance mention, reprinted in the Coos Bay News many years later led to this brief mention:

The school at Southport is being extended in a short time. A stage is being put in for dramatic entertainment.

History of the Southport Mine

1875: The Southport Mine on Isthmus Slough opened. It proved to be one of the most successful mines of the region, producing coal through World War II.
