Galpheree, Thomas
A GILLIAM COUNTY
SETTLER MURDERED IN HIS CABIN.
Murder in Gilliam County.
Arlington, May 23-A foul murder was committed near this
city, same time last week, in a lone cabin on the bunch
grass, where it was discovered only last Sunday morning.
The murdered man was Thos. Galpheree, and his remains were
found by some neighbors, on the bed, covered with bed
clothes, just as he was left by the murderer, in a
horrible state of decomposition. His head had been blown
almost entirely off by a charge of buckshot. A charred
paper, lying on the floor, showed that an attempt had been
made to burn the premises and cover the crime. The place
is located eighteen miles from here on Eight Mile. Dr.
Bacon, the coroner, held an inquest to-day, the verdict
being to the effect that the deceased was killed by
unknown party. Suspicion points to some one in the
neighborhood as the perpetrator.
