Mr. John Matthews, one of the pioneers of Jackson county, died last Wednesday at home near Eagle Point, from typhoid fever. Mr. Matthews came to this valley at an early day in its settlement and located a home on Little Butte creek. He died aged 70 years.

Charles Sullivan was accidentally shot and killed on the evening on the 11th, about eight miles south of Deskins(?), Jackson county, by Daniel Winkle, and in the presence of Lewis Pegg, Wm. Cushman and John Duranceau, all being out hunting. He died almost instantly.

The son of George McLarren, of Applegate, who had his skull fractured by a kick from a horse some time since, died at the residence of W.I. Webster in Jacksonville last Monday.

Mrs. A.E. Dean, wife of B.W. Dean of Willow Springs, Jackson county, died on the 1st inst., aged 19 years.

J.L. Carter, an old and highly respected citizen of Jackson county, died at his home in Ashland on the 1st inst., aged about 65 years.

James A. Cardwell a pioneer who came to Oregon in 18?0 died near Jacksonville on April ?. He was born in White County Tennessee had been married forty three years and was in his 63d year at the time of his death.

Anna Mary (Bright) Kopplin born March 26, 1895 in MO. Parents are Leonard Carl Bright and Hattie Henrietta Roberts. Died July 21, 1985 in Medford, Jackson Co., OR at the age of 90. Husband was Paul Gustav, who had passed before her. She was living at the Three Fountains Nursing Center in Medford at the time of her passing. Last known residence is 835 Crater Lake Ave. in Medford. She had a cremation done by the Perl Funeral Home, 426 W. 6th St. Medford, OR 97504. Ashes were placed at the Siskiyou Memorial Park in Medford.

Died in Ashland, Oregon, October 10, of consumption, Thomas M. Gale, husband of Clara Cook, daughter of the late Watson Cook of Henry. Mr. Gale was a printer and for some years edited a paper in Oregon.
