Personal Research Notes

Bowers, Montgomery, Howell
My maternal grandparents, as noted below, are buried in Mulkey Cemetery, Eugene, OR.

1912: Oregon Marriages, 1906-20 Oregon Marriages, 1906-20

Name: Ella Bowers* M. John Howell**

County: Lane Marriage Date: 4 Jun 1912

Source Information: Ancestry.com. Oregon Marriages, 1906-20 [database on line)

*Ella Bowers' grandparents John and Maria (Farner) Bowers from Pennsylvania via Indiana came to Oregon in 1853 and were mentioned in "Elliott's Lost Wagon Train" as researched by Leah Menefee in her "Cut Off Fever". Ella's maternal grandparents from Missouri, William and Matilda (McHargue) Montgomery, came to Oregon in 1865. The Bowers are buried in Shields Cemetery, Cottage Grove, and the Montgomery's in Mulkey Cemetery.
**The Howell family were late comers to Oregon. John's father and mother, George L. and Mary (Condit) Howell came from Kansas with 10 or 11 of their 14 adult children and settled in Linn County and Lane County about 1904. They too are buried in Mulkey Cemetery.

Sunderman, Danstrom, Stafford, Hays, Scharen
Lena Rosina SUNDERMAN/DANSTROM older brother Simon C. SUNDERMAN is buried in Laurel Grove cemetery along with his wife Henriette and a daughter Ida who was married to STAFFORD.  This same STAFFORD was married again to Lena's daughter Edith May.  Edith's last marriage was to Lawrence Chester HAYS.

Simon C. SUNDERMAN had 3 children and his oldest was Arthur H. who was married to Adella C. SCHAREN, daughter of John and Susan Catherine SCHAREN who are buried in Creswell Pioneer.  I have their Obits as well.

Sunderman, Danstrom, Scharen
Simon C. SUNDERMAN, older brother to Lean Rosina, first wife of Nels Peter
DANSTROM, Simon's first born was Arthur H. SUNDERMAN.  Arthur was married
to Adella C. SCHAREN.  Adella was the daughter of John SCHAREN and Susan
Catherine

Obits on John and Susan proves the connection to SUNDERMAN.  Also one can
see the possibilities of how these people were interacting via their
church and other family members.

Spelling of the Surname was corrupted at Census time from 1870 - 1910,
Nativity kept changing; there were 9 children born and only 5 survived by
1900: Their first born Rosina, J. Albert, S. Arnold, Walter John and
Adella C..

(Note: Rosa/Rosina/Rose SCHAREN was married to Henry MARSHALL not Harry
MARSHALL)
