1892 LINN COUNTY TAX PAYERS

 

These lists of tax payers in Linn County were taken from the "Albany City Directory for 1892," compiled and published by William G. Obenauer, Albany, Oregon, 1892. The price for the directory was three dollars then, and it contained not only a list of the private citizens of Albany, but also a business directory, the officers of the city, judges of the supreme and circuit courts, and a street directory.

I think these lists will become very useful for your research, replacing the 1890 census which was lost.

To help those of you looking for a particular surname anywhere in Linn County, I've also made an alphabetical listing by surname:

The towns in Linn County in 1892 were Albany, Brownsville, Crawfordsville, Halsey, Harrisburg, Lebanon, Peoria, Scio, Shedd, Sweet Home, Tangent and Waterloo, and these precincts are self explanatory.

The Brush Creek District was south of Sweet Home and Holley, below the Liberty District. the post office address was Holley.

The Center District was south and west of Lebanon, and the post office address was Tallman or Fairview.

Fox Valley was up north by Mill City (post office address Lyons), and Franklin Butte was south of Fox Valley, and west towards Scio (post office address also Lyons).

The Liberty District was south and west of Sweet Home, near Holley. The post office address was Santiam.

The Orleans District was south of Albany and Tangent, but west towards Corvallis. The post office address was Oakville.

The Santiam District was north and east of Lebanon near Lacomb.

The Syracuse District was north and west of Albany in what is now called the Dever-Conner area. The post office address was Miller's Station.

The only district I cannot find is Rock Creek, and assuming it was named after the actual Rock Creek, it would be located north and west of the present town of Lacomb, which is north and west of Lebanon. The post office address was Mill City.
