Hi, my name is Shauna Williams and I am the Oregon Trails host, a branch of the Genealogy Trails project.  Genealogy Trail started out as a site for Illinois that offered new free information online so that researchers could trace their ancestors all around the state. After six years they decided to expand to include all 50 states so that people could trace their family "wherever their trails led."

We are looking for a host for this and many other counties. If you are interested please click here to read about becoming a volunteer. We also need source information, perhaps that is something you would consider contributing?

Marion County, then called Champooick, was created by the Provisional Government in 1843, 16 years before Oregon gained statehood. In 1849 the name was changed to Marion in honor of Gen. Francis Marion.
