DROWNED-A young man named Thos. Hickey was drowned in the Yamhill river near McMinnville, on Sunday. He with a number of others was in swimming. His brother seeing him suddenly throw up both hands and sink went to his assistance but came near being drowned also. The deceased was brought down to East Portland and buried yesterday afternoon. correspondent in Yamhill on the 11th inst. writes "There seems to be
no abatement of the supposed small pox on the Yamhill in the
vicinity of Sheridan, and I learn that in some families all are
afflicted with it. The deaths in the locality have been Benj.
Franklin and two children. To day I hear that Mr. Geo. Dunbar is
dead and that his family are all down with it. No new cases on the
Agency.

| F.M. Stow of
Yamhill county was killed last week by a falling tree. He was
cleaning some land by burning the trees down. one of them falling
unexpectedly, it caught him before he could get out of the way,
breaking both legs, a thigh, his back and crushing his skull. He was
an old citizen of Yamhill and leaves a large family.

| Mr. Walker Chrisman,
an old citizen of Yamhill, died some days ago. He was 74 years old.

Mrs. Lucinda Millican, who with her
husband and family settled in Yamhill county at a very early day,
died on the 24th inst. at her home near Lafayette. She was 66 years
of age.

Wm. Yager aged 36 died suddenly in Yamhill
about five miles from McMinnville on the 4th. It was early in the
morning and he was burning some brush near the house. He had carried
a bucket to protect a pile of rails. Presently his wife went to call
him to breakfast and found him lying dead. It was heart disease.

Two little children of R.A. Cooper, of
Wheatland, Oregon, fell into an open fireplace a few days ago. One
died a few minutes after the accident, and the other, it is thought,
is fatally injured.
