| Barlet, Dorothy M. | Private services were held for Dorothy M. Barlet, 91, formerly of Fleetwood, who died July 5 in Kutztown Manor, where she had been a resident. She was the widow of Daniel K. Barlet, who died in 1954. Born in Oley Township, she had been employed for 11 years by Luden's Inc., Reading, retiring in 1977. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fleetwood. Barlet is survived by a daughter, Beverly A. (Barlet) Conrad, Fleetwood, and a sister, Harriet (Labe) Focht, Oley. There are also three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Burial was in Salem (Shalters) Cemetery, Alsace Township. The Mae A. | Barlet, Lester W., Sr. | Lester W. Barlet Sr., 66, Richmond Township, died of natural causes May 10 in Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Beatrice H. (Arndt) Barlet. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late John P. R. and Minerva S. (Schittler) Barlet. Barlet was employed by the Myers Canning Co., Tuckerton, and was last employed for 37 years by Quaker Maid Kitchens, Ontelaunee Township, retiring in 1996. He was an Army veteran. Barlet is also survived by three daughters: Cindy L. (Barlet) Sprecher, and Dawn M. (Barlet) Wengert, both of Fleetwood; and Judith D. (Barlet) Strausser, Hamburg. Other survivors include three sons: Clifford W., and Lester W. Dr., both of Fleetwood; and Michael A., Kutztown. Also surviving are a sister, Barbara L. (Barlet) Burkert, Fleetwood; and six brothers: John P. R. Jr., Gary L., Jerry L. Sr. and Raymond N. Sr., all of Fleetwood; Paul W. Sr., Hamburg; and Earl S., Temple. | Bauer, Mrs. Lovina Schoch | Mrs. Peter Bauer, wife of a respected farmer of Hillegas, died at her residence Saturday night after a brief ilness. She had been suffering from ill health for a number of years, but was not seriously ill until a month before her death. Mrs. Bauer was a most admirable woman with many lovable qualities. She was an exceptionally well-beloved neighbor and a kind and Christian mother, and a devout church member. She reared a large family of children and lived to see all of them reach respectable manhood and womanhood. She was 68 years old. Had 11 children of whom 8 are alive- Magnus of Allentown; Jonathan, David and Mary of Philadelphia; Irwin, Reuben A., Henry F., and Oliver of Hillegas. Funeral services Thursday from the residence near Haring Hotel. Sunday at his home, 222 South Eleventh street, after an illness of three months, a week of which time he was confined to bed. He was a carpenter and followed that trade a long time. In recent years he had a shop in the rear of his home, where he did repair work. He was born in Schaefferstown, Lebanon county, and was a son of the late Thomas and Matilda (nee Musser) Bender. | Borneman, Dr. John S. | Physician Dies in Boyertown; Practices Medicine Over Half Century; Headed Berks Society Dr. John S. Borneman, dean of Berks County physicians, died at his home, 229 East Philadelphia Avenue, at 1:50 a.m. today. On March 15, he would have celebrated his 56th year as a practicing physician. He was aged 81 years. Dr. Borneman was one of the oldest practicing physicians in the East.Dr. John S. He was aged 81 years. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and was widely known. In recent years he had been honored at a number of "old timers" banquets. He was stricken last week and his attending physican, Dr. Richard G. Argens, detected a rapidly developing uremia condition, which finally caused his death. On march 15, 1878, Dr. Borneman was graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, and had been actively engaged in his profession, until a few weeks ago. Although of the old school of medicine, the physician adapted himself to the modern conditions and closely followed the new happenings in the medical field. Dr. Borneman always stoutly maintained the day of the general practitioner has not passed. He was a member of the Berks County Medical Society and a former president of the organization; the Pennsylvania State Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He was the last member of his family. There survive his widow Mary (Shaner) and the following daughters: Elsie, wife of Charles C. Burdan, ice cream manuafacturer; Amy at home; Helen, a graduate of Penn State and Johns Hopkins University. His parents were the late Isaac H. and Esther M. (Stauffer)Borneman. As a youth, he had an ambition to become a school teacher. This object he achieved, teaching school in New Hanover for four terms, in Upper Merion for one term and one term at Hatboro. While teaching he continued his studies and later entered the medical school of the University of Pennsylvania. He received his degree in 1878, being one of a class of 127 students. After graduating from the University, Dr. Borneman began practice in Sassamansville. After 23 months in that community he moved to this borough, occupying the same office during his entire career as a local physician. During Dr. Borneman's nearly 56 years of active practice he attended more than 3,500 maternity cases. Up until his fatal illness he had not missed a day at his office in 38 years. Only once before in his lifetime was he unable to attend to his practice because of illness. That was when he was stricken with an attack of typhoid fever about 39 years ago. Funeral Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the home. Interment in Fairview Cemetery. The Rev. George G. Greenawald, pastor of Good Shepard Reformed Church will officiate. The body may be viewed Monday evening. Brumbach. Born in Oley Township, she was a daughter of the late William F. and Ella H. (Auman) Himmelreich. Until retiring, she was employed in the Western Electric cafeteria. She was previously employed at the Curtis Stevens & Embry Shoe Factory, and was an examiner for the former Kauffman Knitting Mill, and Oley Ship and Shore Company. Brumbach was a member of Zion Spies Evangelical Reformed Church, Alsace Township. She was past president and vice president of the Women’s Guild, and was also a long-time choir member. She was past president of the Oley Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and past president of the Oley Legion Auxiliary. She was a former member of the Blandon Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and its’ Relief Association, and also the Ruscombmanor Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and Relief Association. Also surviving are two daughters, Marion A. (Lorah) Zweizig, Reading, and Betty Lou (Lorah) Reider, Fleetwood; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. There are also a brother, Ned L. Himmelreich, Oley, and five sisters: Erma J. (Himmelreich) Gieringer, Fleetwood; Grace S. (Himmelreich) Heffner, Charlestown, Md.; Anna C. (Himmelreich) Reifsnyder, Oley; Helen M. Deceased was a daughter of Mary Wentzel and the late William Bryan, and was born at Morysville, near Boyertown, on May 15, 1856, being in her 63rd year. There survive her mother, Mary Wentzel Bryan, of Boyertown; her husband, Henry S. Burdan, and the following children: Hiram B., of Pottstown; William H. Burdan, of Reading; Florence wife of Frank W. Clouser, of Pottstown; Susan B., wife of Newton Carver, of Boyertown, and Charles B., of New York City, N.Y. The following brothers and sisters also remain: Olivia, wife of Allen Mory, of Rosedale, PA; Ida widow of Irvin Landis, of New Berlinville; Henry Bryan of Boyertown; Joel Bryan, of Oley, and Hattie wife of William Brown of Morysville. Deceased was a confirmed member of St. John's Luthern Church, Boyertown, having been admitted to membership in 1872. The funeral will be held this Saturday at 8:30 o'clock at the home.
