| Gehris, Children | Fifteen years ago, the family of Wiiliam Gehris, of Hereford township, Berks county, consisted of husband, wife and five children. In the space of two weeks the five children died of diphtheria. Since then six more children were born unto them. Several weeks ago, the family was again attacked with the same disease, and five children again taken. Franklin, a twelve-year-old son, alone escaped the grave. Amamda, aged 8 years, 2 months and 16 days, was buried on Nov. 21st; Kitty Ann, aged 14 years and 9 months, and Adam, aged 10 years and one month were buried in the same grave Dec. 3, and James, aged 2 years and 5 months, and David, aged 5 years and 7 months, were buried yesterday, Dec. 6th, sleeping their last sleep in the same coffin. | Gehris, Matilda | With the Rev. Dr. J.F. Moyer in charge of the services at the house, the funeral of Matilda, widow of Allen Gehris, took place from her home, 1146 Elm Street. The body was gowned in crepe de chine and rested in a square solid mahogany casket with french gray handles and trimmings. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. The Rev. Warren E. Adams will officate. Arrangements are in charge of the Whelan & Mountz Funeral Home. Born in Reading, Mr. Gehris was a son of Allen and Matilda (Keiser) Gehris. A member of the Hampden Fire Company, he is survived by his widow, Anna M. (Koch) Gehris. | Gerhart, William | Funeral of Wm. Gerhart. Crosskill Mills. The funeral of William Gerhart, a respected citizen of Bethel township, who died suddenly of apoplexy, aged 83 years, 8 months and 29 days, was held on Tuesday. Rev. Hertzel officiated. Interment was made in the cemtery adjoining Klopp's church, where the services were held. Undertakers Rittle and Son had charge. Wm. Hoffa, Daniel Bross, Jere. Boltz and Abraham Merkey were bearers. Wm. Gerhart was born in Behtel township, Mrch 28, 1814. As soon as he reached his majority he commenced farming near Meckville, where he resided for many years. He retired from farming years ago and lived a retired life on a small tract, 3/4 of a mile west of town, where he died. He was well-to-do and owned considerable real estate in this township. He was married to a Miss Bensing, who survives im, aged 78 years, but who has been an invalid for 3 years. Their union was blessed with 6 hcildren: Cyrus, Adam, Serenius, and Mrs. Jona. Gassert, of near Meckville; Mrs. Uhrich and Mrs. Reige., both of Lebanon. | Germann, Francis A. | Francis A. Germann, 70, of 1119 Elm St., died Friday in the Leader Nursing Home, Laureldale, where he had been a patient since June 9. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late John M. and Stella K. (Gehris) Germann. He was a carpenter for 30 years, employed by Earl Sheib, retiring in 1984. Surviving are two brother, Bernard C. Germann and John S. Germann JR., both of Reading; a niece and four nephews. Germann worked as a crystal grower at AT&T, Reading, for 22 years before retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Rosedale United Church of Christ, Laureldale. In addition to his wife, he is survived by on son, Dr. Robert E., Fitchburg, Mass., two grandsons; two granddaughters; and three brothers, Bernard, Francis, and John, all of Reading. Theo C. Germann was employed for 42 years as a electrical estimator aby Gilbert-Commonwealth, retiring in 1983. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Frederick P. Texarkana, Texas, and Jeffrey J., Reading; and a daughter, Donna F. Germann, Reading. Other survivors include a brother, Bernard, Reading. The remains were dressed in black and encased in a handsome casket, the plate of which bore the name and age of the deceased. Services were conducted by Rev. Dr. A. S. Leinbach.
