Harry E. McElwain, sergeant, Medical Detachment, 7th Infantry. For extraordinary heroism in action near Fossoy, France, July 15, 1918. During an intense artillery preparation by the enemy, he voluntarily went out about 1,000 yards, through this heavy shell fire, to administer first aid to five wounded men.
