John H. Backenstoe, president of the Farmer's Bank, of Hummelstown, Pa., died suddenly yesterday of apolexy while in the bath room at his home.

Died in Harrisburg, on Saturday, the 4th ult., after a long spell of sickness, Mr. John Benjamin, aged 46 years, 9 months and 19 days. He had been elected sergeant at arms to the house of representatives for a number of years.

Mrs. Mary Blessing, aged 72 years, residing with her son at Hummelstown,
this county, yesterday locked herself in a room, removed all her clothing,
set them on fire then threw herself in the flames. When discovered
she was horribly burned and died a few hours afterward. She was slightly
demented.
William D. Block
William D. Block Died At Harrisburg Wed.
William D. Block, license tax officer of Harrisburg, and a resident of Mt. Gretna, died at his home in the capital city Wednesday night. The deceased is well known to Lebanonians and his death came as a shock to residents of this city and Mt. Gretna. He was a step-father to Mrs. Simeon R. On Tuesday evening last, as Mr. John Bower (who resided near Halifax) was returning home, on horseback, in company with some of his neighbors; and riding with great speed, he was thrown against a tree and killed on the spot. The deceased has left a wife and 8 or 9 children to lament his sudden death. - Oracle.
Leroy A. Brubaker

Funeral services for Leroy A. Brubaker; 50, who died at his home in Harrisburg Monday following a brief illness well be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Dugan funeral home, 1600 Market street, Harrisburg, conducted by the Rev. Eugene Wenger, Hummelstown. Interment in Rolling Green cemetery. Mr. Brubaker, a son of William L. Brubaker, 63 West High Street, was an engineer with the Reading company, having been employed by the company for 30 years. He was a member of the Salem Lutheran church, Oberlin and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. In addition to his father he is survived by his widow, two sons, Earl W. at home and James L,. Chamber Hill; one daughter Mrs. Raoul Garcia, at home; one brother Charles, Mechanicsburg; one sister, Mrs. Lewis Nunemaker, Harrisburg, and five grandchildren. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening form 7 to 9 o'clock.
George Bryant

When city detective Ibach arrested William Johnson, colored, charging him
with the murder of George Bryant, colored, Johnson laughed and thought it
was a joke. Johnson admits he hit Bryant on the head with a brick on
Oct. 14. Johnson then left town and two days later Bryant died. Johnson
returned to Harrisburg, not having heard that Bryant was dead.
