It is located in the southeastern part of the state of Pennsylvania
The city of Lancaster (pronounced LANK-ister) is the county seat.

Lebanon County -North

Berks County - northeast

Chester County - east (the southeastern boundary with Chester County is formed by Octoraro Creek).

To the south are
Cecil and Harford Counties, Maryland (across the Mason-Dixon line).

York County - West (the boundary is the western shore of the Susquehanna River).

Dauphin County - northwest (the boundary is formed by Conewago Creek).
