CALVIN E. ARNER, practitioner at the Lehigh County bar, and former member of city council, was born in Mahoning Township, Carbon County, Pa., October 7, 1869, the son of John H. and Mary (Wehr) Arner. He received is primary educatio in the public schools and later attended Palatinate College, Myerstown, and Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, from which institution he was graduated in 1890. He studied law in the office of the late Hon. Edward Harvey and was admitted to practice at the local bar, September 13, 1893, subsequently becoming a member of the higher courts. He is a devoted student and a conservative counselor, and enjoys a large clientele. He is a Democrat i npolitics and actively interested in the affairs of the community. From 1905 to 1911 he served as a member of the common council from the Fourth Ward. In 1913, under the commission ofrm of government, he was nominated from a list of forty-nine candidates for city council as one of the eight ment to be voted for at the ensuing election, receiving the highest vote on the ticket. He was elected NOvember 4, 1913, again receiving the highest vote of councilmanic candidates. He had charge of the department of finance during his incumbency and proved himself to ba an able and conscientious public official.
