MORRIS C. BASTIAN, treasurer of the Arbogast & Bastian Co., was born in Lower Macungie Township, Lehigh County, Pa., June 21, 1859. He attended the public schools during the winter months, and through the summer assisted his father on the farm and worked in the nearby ore beds. At seventeen he was sent to the State Normal School at Millersville, Pa., for a year. Returning home, he continued to help his father to conduct the farm until he was nearly twenty-five years old. In 1885 he came to Allentown and established a general store, which he conducted until 1887, when he became associated with Wilson Arbogast in instituting the Arbogast & Bastian Co. When the firm was incorporated in 1902, he became and has continued to be its treasurer, developing in the meanwhile into one of the ablest business men in the city, The Arbogast & Bastian Co. is one of the largest and must successful packing houses in the eastern part of the country. Mr. Bastian is a Republican in politics, and much interested in the civic, social and religious affairs of the community. He is a member of the board of governors of the Chamber of Commerce, He is a member of various Masonic bodies; the P. 0. S. of A., and Seibert U.E. Church. He is a director of the Lehigh Valley Trust Company, and of the Jordan Mutual Fire Insurance Company, and also a trustee of Albright College, Myerstown, Pa. He married Emma, daughter of Damos and Maria Schuler.
