FRED B. GERNERD, former district attorney of Lehigh County, was born in Lower Macungie Township, November 22, 1879, a son of Charles W. B. an dEllen V. (Schmoyer) Gernerd. He attended the Allentown public schools and was graduated from the high school with the class of 1897. He then attended, in succession, Muhlenberg college, Allentown; Roanoke College, Salem, Va., and Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, Pa., being graduated from the last named institution in 1901. He then matriculated at the school of Political Science of Columbia University, New York, and in 1903 was awarded his degree of Master of Arts. He was graduated from the law department of the same university in 1904 and then practiced in the office of Bissel, Carey & Cook, of Buffalo, N. Y. In April, 1905, he was admitted to the Lehigh County bar and in 1907, on the Republican ticket, was elected district attorney of Lehigh County. He organized and was the first president of the John Hay Republican Club. He is director of the Citizens Deposit and Trust Company, and president of the Lehigh Shoe and Rubber Company, which he organized in the fall of 1908. He is a member of the Livingston Club; B. P. O.
