ALLEN W. HAGENBACH, attorney-at-law, is the son of Dr. Allen W. Hagenbach, and was born in Chicago, Ill., December 29, 1880. His father was a physician, an alienist of reputation and superintendent of the Cook County Insane Hospital, Chicago, Ill. He is a lineal descendant of Captain Henry Hagenbach, one of the first settlers of the city of Allentown, who commanded the first company raised in this section during the Revolutionary War and fought under Washington at the battle of Long Island. At the age of ten, his father died and he afterward lived with his maternal grandparents at Alburtis, Pa. He attended the public schools and was graduated from the Keystone State Normal School, Kutztown, in 1896. He then taught school for a year and in 1898, when the Spanish-American War broke out, enlisted in Co. B, Fourth Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, and took part in General Miles' expedition to Porto Rico, and received an honorable discharge at the end of the war. In 1900 he bagan the study of law in the offices of Hon. M. C. L. Kline, and in 1903 was admitted to the bar. In 1911 Mr. Hagenbach received the Republican nomination for district attorney, and in 1913 he became a candidate for judge as a Progressive. He was the first department adjutant general of Pennsylvania of the Spanish-American War Veterans. Mr. Hagenbach is one of Allentown's well-known lawyers, and ranks high in his profession throughout the State. He was one of the organizers of the Bethlehem Trust Company, and has been its solicitor and trust officer since its incorporation. He is a member of the Livingston Club and other local organizations. On November 29, 1911, he married Miriam L. Kleppinger, daughter of George H. Kleppinger, of Allentown.
