DANIEL W. HAMM, principal of the Allentown High School, was born in Albany Township, Berks County, Pa., February 13, 1887, the son of Benjamin K. and Mary A. Hamm. He received his primary education in the public schools of this city, graduating from the high school in 1896. He then entered Muhlenberg College, and was graduated from that institution in 1901, after which he taught in the local public schools until 1902, when he was appointed a forester by the United States Bureau of Forestry, being stationed in Maine during the summer of 1902, and in the Adirondack Mountains in 1903. He then served six years as principal of the Stevens building, where he organized the extension school. In 1910 he was elected teacher of history in the high school, of which he was elected principal in July , 1913. He, therefore, has the honor of being the first principal of the Allentown High School in its new $600,000 building. Professor Hamm is an assiduous student, a capable instructor and a disciplinearian of sound judgment. November 18, 1903, he married Jessie L. K. Cassel, of Lansdale, Pa. He is a member of the following organizations; I.O.R.M., Grand Lodge; K.G.E.; I.O.O.F., organizer; Jordan Lodge, F. and A.M.; Jordan Royal Arch Chapter; M.R. and S.M.; Allen Commandery, and Red Cross of Constantine.
