Henninger, Milton C.

HON. MILTON C. HENNINGER, former state senator, was born near Emaus, Pa., the son of Peter and Salome A. (Marcks) Henninger. He attended the public schools an dpursued a course at Freeland Seminary (now Ursinus College), at Collegeville, in 1870; was graduated from the Keystone State Normal School, at Kutztown, and in 1874 from Muhlenberg College. He then became a student at law in the office of HOn. John D. Stiles and on September 5, 1876, was admitted as a member of the bar of Lehigh County. In the fall of 1877 he was elected district attorney for a term of three years, and following the expiration of his term, in the fall of 1882, was elected state senator of Lehigh County. That same year he was a delegate to the state convention, which nominated Hon. Robert E. Pattison as Governor of Pennsylvania. He was thereafter re-elected state senator for two terms, and served teh office from December, 1882, to December, 1894. In the spring primary election of 1912, he was a Democratic candidate for Congress, receiving the second highest vote of the four candidates. In the Profession of law among his fellow practitioners, he is recognized as an able and safe adviser, eminently versed in the details and intricacies of the law, and ethical in his conduct. He has also found fame as an author of Pennsylvania German poems. In 1883 he married Mary Hausman, a daughter of HOn. B. Boas Hausman. In 1916 his son, James F. Henninger, was admitted to partnership with his father in the practice of law.
