REV. E. O. LEOPOLD, former president of the board of education, was born in South Whitehall Township. He was educated in the Allentwon public schools, Allentown Preparatory School and Muhlenberg College, where he was graduated in 1889. He was graduated from the Mt. Airy Theological Seminary in 1892. That same year he was ordained to the Lutheran ministry and was called as pastor to Girardville, where he served eight years. In 1900 he came to Lehigh County and became assistant to his father.Upon his father's death in 1904, he was elected to succeed him in the charge consisting of Cetronia, Fogelsville, Qiegel, Weisenberg and Morganland congregations. Dureing the four years that he served these congregations, he was also pastor of the county almshouse. In 1908 he was elected pastor of the Egypt charge, and in 1916 was elected pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, Fullerton. Rev. Mr. Leopold is a powerful pulpit orator. In 1911, under the new school code, he was elected to a six-year term as one of the nine school directors of Allentown. He served as president of the school board and his administration was one of the highest efficiency. He was a big factor in the building of Allentown's new $600,000 high school building. He is a member of Greenleaf Lodge, and ranks as a thirty-second degree Mason. Aside from his Masonic affiliations, he is a prominent Odd Fellow and a member of the Allentown Lodge of Elks.
