CARSON W. MASTERS, proprietor of the Hotel Allen, was born in Union County, Pa., September 11, 1868, the son of Henry M. and Hannah R. (Snyder) Masters. He was educated in the public schools, after which he secured his first employment in a paper-making plant, next working in the Godcharles Nail Plate Mill, at Milton, Pa. He then went to Shamokin, where he entered the employ of the Philadelphia & Reading Railway Company as a brakeman. Later he was promoted to conductor of fast freight trains. He was only eighteen years old and the youngest employee of the road in that position. August 8, 1888, he came to Allentown, and on Semptember 21, 1890, was engaged by John H. Harris, then rpoprietor of the Hotel Allen. He became and continued to be manager, until April, 1896, when he assumed proprietorship of the widely known hostelry. Businesslike, but genial and pleasant of manner, Mr. Masters is the ideal boniface, a fact thisch accoutns for the modern appointments, accommodation of popularity of the Allen through out the EAst. Mr. Masters is an enterprising citizen and an accomplished musician. He is a Progressive in politics, a Lutheran in religion, and also a member of the following organizations: Order of Elks; Jordan Lodge, F. and A. M.; Order of Eagles; Sons of Veterans, and the Clover Club. August 5, 1897, he married Minnie E. R., daughter of Prof. and Mrs. Edwin A. Young, of Allentown. |
