Terrible Death from Burning
A few days ago, Mrs. Dervine, of Sharon, Mercer county, was so serriously burned by the explosion of a kerosene oil can, that she survived only about twenty-four hours. She had lighted a fire in the cooking stove, and to hurry matters a little, took off one of the covers and poured oil in upon the fire. As might have been expected, the flames communicated with the oil in the can, exploding it, and scattering the burning fluid all over the person of Mrs. D., burning her so badly before it could be extinguished, that she died as above stated. She was a widow, her husband having been scaleded to death by a boiler explosion in 1865. It is reported that she was to be married again this week.
