Part of

Montour County  was formed in 1850 from parts of Columbia County.  It gets its name from Catherine Montour, a prominent Indian woman. The county seat is Danville.   Danville, at one time was the county seat for Columbia County during the years before 1844.  One of the largest iron works for the state of Pennsylvania - the Montour Iron Works was located at Danville. It produced iron for Pennsylvania for 98 years until it was dismantled in 1938.
