Petition, Widow and Orphans of Jno. Frankeberger Deceased, Mar 1780

Original Loose Papers held at the York County Archives

To the Worshipful Justices before the County of York at Orphans Court held at York the 22nd Day of March AD 1780

The Humble Petition of the Widow and Orphants of John Frankeberger late of Paradice Township York County Deceased

Humbly Sheweth, that the said John Frankeberger was possessed of a Tract of Three hundred and Eighteen Acres of Land well Improved together with a large Stock &c Which Plantation, together with his Wagon, Plowghs, Harrow and Geers, three Horses, two Cows and the One half of the Crop then in the Ground, He the said John Frankeberger some time before his Death Sold unto his Sons John and William Frankeberger for the small price of Seven hundred pounds to be paid in Gails after his Death, in no way Judging the Currancy would Depreciate and if it should so fall in Value by reason of the War that before the first Bond would become due the War would be over and the Money come to its old Standard.

That the said John Frankeberger Died in June 1777 having made his Will and left his Widow and Thirteen Orphants some of them very young and having left the two Sons he sold the Place to Namely John and William Frankeberger Executors to his last Will which said Two Sold each their share of sd Plantation since and has not yet made a Settlement with the Orphants Court.

Your Petitioners is Apprehensive a Settlement will be offered this Court and if the Purchasers Bonds are taken in Currancy it will be but of small Value and each ones share of little account, as we are Sensiable the Plantation alone either when it was first Sold or now would bring far more in Gold which would Purchase a Vast larger Quantity of Grain or any other Commodity that your Petitioners might want Or if it were yet to be sold for Paper Currancy Your Worships may easily Judge how much more it would now sell for than at the first.

Your Petitioners therefore prays Your Worships to take the Cause of the Widow and Orphants Under your most Mature consideration and grant Your Petitioners redress. And Your Petitioners as in Duty bound shall Pray. Signed Barbara {B} Frankeberger (her mark), Henry Frankeberger, Elizabeth {E} Bower (her mark), Phebe Frankeberger, Margaret Frankelberger, Peter Houshill Guardian for Jacob, Barbara and Conrad Frankeberger Minor children &c, Geor.
