Publishing Your Pages
Final Tips
After you have finished creating or editing
your webpages, you are now ready for the upload process. There are several different ways to upload, but we recommend
using any number of excellent FTP software packages. A free FTP software program that's available for downloading
is FTP Commander. Another good software program that is worth buying
is WS-FTP
Pro.
Once you've uploaded your HTML page, please make sure that all the graphics used in the webpage have been uploaded
into the same folder as well.
Actually look at your webpage online once the upload process is completed. Please make sure that all the graphics
are showing and all links are working. It's a lot easier to correct problems now while the project is still fresh
in your mind than to wait until later when one's memory is a little fuzzy.
If you notice that there is a problem and you aren't sure how to solve it, go to our FAQS page for some trouble-shooting hints.
Once your pages look perfect, you should have your search engine provider re-index your site to include your additions/updates.
What search engine? Well, a good search engine provider is FreeFind; a company many county hosts use. The source code they will give you has to be inserted directly
into the source code of your index page. Click on the Edit Source (Ctrl+Shift+E) icon.
After you receive an email stating that your site has been "spidered", please let the Illinois Trails
researchers know about the hard work you've done on your county by submitting an email to trails@genealogytrails.com.
Good job!
You have now completed all
the lessons! Bravo!
