Rhode Island June 27th (1712).
"An Indian servant man belonging to Mr. Giles Slocum of Portsmouth carry'd out to sea in a canoo two of his masters sons, one of ten, the other of nine years old, whom he kill'd and drown'd, and being examin'd before the Authority confesed that he knocked the eldest child in the head with the padle, and seeing the younger crying, he designedly oversett the canoo, and swam ashore himself, who is now in Irons in clofe(?) prison till he is try'd for his murder."

Shot Dead In A Bar-Room
Newport, R. I., Feb 5 – Wm. A. Sullivan, a telegraph operator , was shot dead last night in a bar-room on Long Wharf by Frank L. Allen, who was charged. Allen gave himself up.

Little Compton Offers Reward
$400 For Apprehension and Conviction of Peleg Cornell's Murderer of Murderers.
Newport, Feb. 18.--The following notice has been posted in Little Compton: $400 Reward.

The above reward is offered by the town of Little Comptonfor the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons who caused the death of Peleg Cornell, who was murdered on or about the night of Tuesday, Feb. 11, 1902.

Per order of the Town Council. The posters are the result of the council meeting of the Little Compton Council held yesterday afternoon at the Town Hall, the authorities having taken up the case with commendable energy.

In addition to the special reward of $400, there is a standing reward of $100 offered by the town for the arrest and conviction of any on stealing property valued at $5 or more. As rebbery as well as murder was committed in this case, person earning the first reward will, also stand a fair chance of getting the standing reward, so that in reality the amount offered is equal to $500.

The council also voted to appoint Coroner Gifford a committee of one to interest the state officials in the matter, and as a result Mr. Gifford visited Providence and interviewed Gov. Kimball and Assistant Attorney General William B. Greenough with the result the latter attended the inquest at Little Compton today.
