relations specialist, operating own agency, in addition to being
personal adviser to leading coll. presidents, businessmen and
industrialists. Started as reporter, Philadelphia Tribune; became
active in pol. and race relations; started Brown American mag. and
has spearheaded several promotional organizations in Negro health
and in interest of Negroes in industry; has filled, for several
years, position of dir., Div. of Negro Research and Planning, Pa.
State dept. of Labor and Industry. Achieved power in Republican
circles during New Deal days when he remained actively loyal to
G.O.P.; organized Negroes nationally, and through his several orgns
-- reminded Negroes that industry is their best friend. Condisered
most important as behind-the-scenes adviser to leading politicians
and civic figures. Has travelled throughout country, both as pub.
relations counsellor and as special writer for Philadelphia
Inquirer, to which he contributes a twice-a-week column. Active in
Y.M.C.A., and once chrm. of Emblem Club, Christian Street Br.,
Philadelphia; mem. Natl. Pub. Relations Soc., Philadelphia Press
club, Pyramind Club. AFrican Methodist Episcopal, Republican.
