upwards of thirty years, a Represnetative in the state Legislature,
from Abbeville District. (The Anderson Gazette - December 2,

J.
Willis Buchanan

Mrs. Rev. Francis Cummins
Died, on the 10th of December at Abbeville
county, in the prime of life, Mrs. Cummins, wife of the Rev. Francis
Cummins, of that place. It is but a just tribute to the memory of
this lady to say, that she did honor to a pious education by an
early choice of religion, which added to a disposition naturally
good, made her truly amiable in every circumstance of life. By an ?,
unaffected manner, she was agreeable to all about her and
particularly so in the intimacies of friendship. In the benevolence
of her heart, in the tenderness of her affections, and in the
prudence of her whole conduct, she illustrated all the domestic
virtues. In her life she was an ornament to christianity and in her
death an irreparable lost to her family. (The State Gazette of South
Carolina January 31, 1791)
Joseph M. Bond
"Joseph M Bond was born in Abbeville district, S.C.,
September 28, 1797, and died in Campbell county, Ga., June 29,
1873.
"He embraced religion in 1845, and was received into
the Methodist Church by the late Rev. Noah Smith, of the Georgia
Conference. In this connection he remained until his death. In a
conversation with his eldest son during his last Illness he said his
arrangements were made for the long and momentous journey he was
about to take. When his massive form lay helpless as an infant in
the arms of his attendants, he raised his sinking eyes and looked
affectionately upon his family, who stood weeping around him, and
then made an effort to speak, but was only heard to say 'boys!'
after which there was a short pause when he said, distinctly,
'Heaven!' In a few moments he yielded up his spirit. He reared four
children, who are all members of the Church. He leaves an
(illegible) wife who though she is rapidly yielding to the weight of
sickness and sorrow, is still looking upward. Thos. H.
Timmons."
