Capt. John
Anderson Butler
Aiken, May 11, - Capt. John Anderson Butler died Sunday at
his home in North Augusta, this county. Capt. Butler was well
and favorably known throughout this section of South Carolina.
He entered the War Between the Sections when a lad of barely
16 years and served throughout the conflict. Afterwards he
took part in the Humburg and Ellenton riots. Capt. Butler had
been in ill health for the past year. He is survived by one
son, Thomas M. Butler, and three daughters, Mrs. J. L.
Randall, Mrs. H. C. Hagin and Miss Kate Butler. Funeral
services were held Monday, interment being at Sweetwater

ARMY
Pvt. Algernon Adams of North Augusta entered
into rest Tuesday, October 28, 2003 in Iraq.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday,
November 5, 2003 at 1 p.m. at First Shiloh Baptist Church with
Rev. Willie L. James officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue
Cemetery. PV2 Adams, a native of Augusta, was a 1985 graduate
of Butler High School. He was a member of 122nd Brigade
National Guard Unit, Aiken, activated in March 2003 in support
of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Survivors are his wife, Rosa Adams; three
sons, Sharod Adams, Kansas, Lachadrick Freeman, Norricco
Freeman, Clarks Hill; four daughters, Arista Freeman,
Louisiana, April Adams, Nonregal Adams, Augusta, Allisha
Adams, North Augusta; parents, Bobby and Colopia Ann Brown,
Augusta, Eugene and Naomi Adams, Philadelphia, Pa.; sisters,
Dedrey Shepherd, Augusta, Naomi Adams, Nakea Fuller,
Philadelphia, Pa.; brothers, Varain McMillian, Augusta,
Nicholas Adams, Philadelphia, Pa.; grandmother, Lula Bell
Brown, Augusta; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews

Matthew Dillon
AIKEN, S.C. - Funeral services for
Marine Cpl. Matthew Dillon will be held at 12pm on Wednesday,
December 20, 2006 at Millbrook Baptist Church. Interment will
follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville. The family
will receive friends Tuesday, December 19, 2006 from 6-8pm at

Dillon, 25, of Aiken, died Monday, December 11, 2006 while on
patrol in the Ambar province of Iraq. Matthew was a beloved
son, brother, and friend to many. He exhibited a zest for life
and a love for his country that was beyond compare. Matthew's

Ben Jerome Booth of Warrenville died Tuesday in an
Augusta hospital after an extended illness. Funeral
services will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday at Posey's Chapel in
Graniteville with the Rev. W. C. Lowe officiating. Burial will
be in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery, Langley. Mr. Booth
was an Edgefield County native and was retired from the
Graniteville Manufacturing Co. Survivors include his
widow, Mrs. Leila Bryant Booth, Warrenville; daughter, Mrs. J.
E. Morris, Aiken; son, Lawrence Booth, Pittsburgh, Pa.;
sister, Mrs. Myrtle Nicholson, Edgefield, SC.; brother, Bill
Booth, Edgefield; eight grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

E. Eargle AIKEN, S.C. - Edwin E. Eargle of
Aikens died at University Hospital in Augusta Tuesday
afternoon after an extended illness. Funeral services will
be held at 5 p.m. Thursday at Langley Methodist Church with
the Rev. Thomas Rogers and the Rev. W. P. Millgan officiating.
Burial will be in Graniteville Cemetery. A native of
Graniteville, S.C.. Mr. Eargle was the son of the late Clifton
C. and lola Jowers Eargle. He was a pharmacist and member of
Langley Methodist Church. Survivors include daughter,
Mrs. Barbara Ann Tanner. Nashville Tenn.; son, Teddy Eargle,
Aiken; four grandchildren; sister, Mrs. T. B. (Helen) Farmer,
Aiken; aunts; uncles; one niece; and one nephew.
Pallbearers will be Delmus Weeks, Willie McKinney, Allie
Lambert, Heyward Jones, Bill Jones and John Ham. Friends
may call at Posey Funeral Home in Langley. The family will be
at the residence of his sister, Wagener Road. Aiken.

Cyrus MONETTA. S.C. - Alphonzo Cyrus. 24. died
Sunday from injuries received in a motorcycle accident.

Harriett Averill Monetta, Dec. 27. – Mrs. Susan
Harriett Averill, widow of the late Col. J. H. Averill, died
at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. J. E. Boatwright, after
a short illness. Internment was at the home of her son, E. M.
Averill, at Orange , Va. [Aiken Journal and Review
