Dorchester Baptist Church

Dorchester Baptist Church was organized May 3, 1832, by about 40 members of the Big Creek, Neals Creek, and Hopewell Baptist Churches.  This group of 40 members originally worshiped at the Rock Creek Brush Arbor.  They worshiped once a month under the leadership of Rev. Bobby King.

A permanent baptismal was build outside the old church - this being restored and dedicated on September 26, 2000 by The Upper Room Sunday School Class.

Elder Robert King - January 1, 1791 - January 1st, 1879, in Anderson County, SC.  In 1809 he went to Dickson County, Tennessee.  He joined the Turn Bull Church, and was baptized by Elder Daniel White. He returned to South Carolina and joined the Neal's Creek Church, in Anderson County.  In about March of 1811, he married Miss Fannie Holland, daughter of the Rev. Moses Holland,

Elder Robert King

current pastor of Neal's Creek Church. They raised twelve sons and daughters. Two of their sons were ordained ministers.

Robert King was ordained at the Neal's Creek Church n May 24, 1828 by Elders James Burriss, Arthur Williams, Sanford Vandiver and Moses Holland. He pastored Washington Church, in Greenville County  for eight years. By September 1829, he was joined by Elder William McGee take care of Neal's Creek Church.  In 1831 he moved his membership and pastored the Big Creek Church remaining here for seven years.

On May 3, 1832, he assisted in the constitution of the Dorchester  church, becoming its pastor on the same day, until 1866.  In 1833 he assisted in the constitution of the Zion Hill Church, in Greenville County, accepting the pastorate for three years. In March 1833 he assisted in the organization of Poplar Springs Church (now Long Branch). In 1836 he cared for Hopewell Church for sixteen years. In 1841 he went to Lebanon Church, serving till 1845 and from 1843 - 1846 he served as pastor of the Poplar Springs Church.
