Mrs. Sharpe Anderson, S.C., April 9 -
Mrs. Sharpe, who died at Pendleton last Thursday night, was buried
at the Baptist cemetery in this city this morning. The following
gentlemen acted as pallbearers: G. E. Prince, T. F. Hill, N. R.
Green, C. F. Jones, Wm. Laughlin and J. L. Glenn. Mrs. Sharpe was an
elderly lady and had been sick for sometime with grip and pneumonia.
She leaves several children, Mrs. James N. Watkins of this city

Rev. Thomas W. Seigler Rev. Thos.
W. Seigler died at his home near Cook's last Sunday afternoon, after
a brief illness of typhoid fever, and the announcement of his death
was a great shock to many of his friends and acquaintances. On
Monday afternoon his remains were interred in the Good Hope
Churchyard. Mr. Seigler was a minister of the Baptist Church,
and highly esteemed by his friends and acquaintances, who deeply
sympathize with the widow and five little children who are left to

wife of J. V. Shanklin, Esq., and mother of the late Rev. J. A.

Calvin, aged 1 month and 15 days, infant sons of Mr. William and Mrs. Mary
Ann Stewart.
Mrs.
Beulah Sears Mrs. Myrtle Beulah Sears, 71, of Rt. 4
Anderson, died Monday morning at Anderson Memorial Hospital after a
short illness. Born in Oconee County, she was a daughter of
the late Benjamin Alman and Julia Burdett Bruce. She was a
member of Grove Level Baptist Church in Maysville, Ga. and was the
widow of Fred Lee Sears. Surviving are sons, Charles Sears of
Homer, Ga., Dwayne Sears of Canon, Ga., Wayne Sears of Columbia,
Jack and Bobby Sears of Anderson, Carlton Sears of Athens, Ga.;
daughters, Mrs. Faye Hembree of Lake land, Fla.; Mrs. Ethel Brewer
of McCormick, Mrs. Betty McKinne of Columbia, Mrs. Shirley Hembree
of Anderson, Mrs. Wilma Dupree of Alameda, Calif., brothers, DeWitt
Bruce of Williamston, Crawford Bruce of Anderson, Waybus Bruce of
Liberty; sisters Mrs. Sue Smith of Williamston, Mrs. Verlyn
Brown of Pendleton; 36 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.
Plans will be announced by McDougald Funeral Home. The body is
at the North Chapel. The family is at the home of a son, jack

Zera
Simpson Zera C. Simpson, 81, of Calhoun Street
Extension died at 9:50 p.m yesterday at his residence following
declining health of four years and a serious illness of six
months. Mr. Simpson was born Aug. 13, 1884, in Anderson
County, a son. of the late Samuel David Simpson and Zilpbia Cann
Simpson. He had resided in Anderson County all his life, was a
retired policeman and farmer, was captain of the Anderson County
chaingang for 16 years and for four terms served as county
commissioner. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church where
he was the last charter member and trustee. He was the first
ordained Deacon of the church and served in that capacity for 58"
years. Survivors: widow, Mrs. Earline Hembree Simpson; son, Prue C.
Simpson of Anderson; daughter, Mrs. Edward K. Meeks of
Columbia; four grandsons, Louis and Don Simpson, both of Anderson,
and Edward and George Meeks, both of Columbia; three
great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m.
Tuesday at the Concord Baptist Church with the Revs. Alvin D. Wall
and W. P. Hall Sr. officiating. Burial in church cemetery.

Simpson DEATH OF AN INFANT Bessie, the 3 month old
child of Mr. & Mrs. Zera Simpson died last night at the home of
the parents in the north of the city. Internment was made at Concord

Prue C. Simpson Prue
Calhoun Simpson, 53, well known Andersonian and for many years owner
and operator of a restaurant on North Main Street, died unexpectedly
at his home on Calhoun Street Ext., Sunday night apparently as the
result of a fall. Mr. Simpson, a native and lifelong resident
of Anderson County, was a son of Mrs. Earline Hembree Simpson, who
survives him, and the late Zera C. Simpson, who died May 19,
1966. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church and also of
Hiram Masonic Lodge. Survivors: his mother, of Anderson;
widow, Mrs. Margaret Kay Simpson, of the home, two sons, Les and
Louis Simpson, of Anderson; one sister, Mrs. Edward Meeks of
Columbia; two grandchildren, Randall Calhoun Simpson and Donna Jean
Simpson, Anderson. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at
Concord Baptist Church, the Rev. Alvin D. Wall officiating. Burial
will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers: Tommy
Thomason, Eddie Meeks, George Meeks, Dan Kay, Bobby Kay and David
Kay. Members of the Ricahrd Terry Sunday School Class of
Concord Baptist Church, members of Hiram Masonic Lodge and employes

Margaret Simpson Mrs. Margaret Kay Simpson, 79, of
Route 1, Calhoun Street Ext., widow of Pruce C. Simpson, died
Thursday at Anderson Memorial Hospital. Born in Anderson
County,s he was a daughter of the late Raymond and Mamie Chamblee
Kay. She was a homemaker, a member of Golden Hour Garden Club.
She was a member of Concord Baptist Church and the Carrie Griffin
Sunday school class. Surviving are sons, Don and Louis Simpson
of Anderson; brother, Earle Kay of Anderson; sister, Mrs. Gary
(Elizabeth) Thomason of Greer; four grandchildren. Services at
5 p.m. Saturday at Concord Baptist Church by the Revs. Bob
Marcaurelle and Randy Blank. Burial in the church
cemetery. The body is at the Sullivan-King Mortuary. The

E. K. (Gene) Simpson Eugene Kay
(Gene) Simpson, 30 year old postal worker of Calhoun St. Ext., died
at 6 a.m. yesterday in the Greenville General Hospital. Mr.
Kay, a native and life long resident of Anderson, was a son of Prue
C. and Margaret Kay Simpson, and a member of Concord Baptist
Church. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, having served
in the U.S. Air Force for four years. For the past four years
he had been employed at the Anderson Post Office. He was never
married. Survivors: his parents, two brothers, Donald
and Louis Simpson of Anderson, paternal-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Z. C. Simpson of Anderson; a nephew, Randall Simpson, also of
Anderson. Funeral services 3:30 p.m. today, Concord Baptist
Church, the Rev. Alvin D. Wall and the Rev. Fred Bremer officiating.
Burial Concord Church Cemetery. Pallbearers: Eddie Meeks,

Judy F. Simpson Judy
F. Bratcher Simpson, 58, of 133 Austin Drive, Anderson, died Monday
Aug. 21, 2000 at Anderson Area Medical Center. Born in
Anderson, she was a homemaker, a former employee of Hunger Jax
Restaurant and a member of Middleton Road Baptist Church.
Surviving are widowere, Louis Simpson of the home; sons, Tracy
Porter and Danny R. Porter Jr., both of Anderson; daughter, Michelle
McElrath of Piedmont; brother, Robert Bratcher of Anderson; sisters,
Clara Branyon of Anderson and Evelyn Rice of Moonville; and five
grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Robert Howard
Bratcher and Lillie Hunnincutt Bratcher. She was preceded in
death by a son, Andy Farmer; and two brothers, Troy Bratcher and
Bill Bratcher. Services are at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the
McDougald Funeral Home Chapel, Anderson, by the Revs. Archie Sharpe
and Charles Eaton; burial will be in Concord Baptist Church
cemetery, Anderson. The body is at the funeral home, where the
family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays. The

Slater John Pickens Slater, 83, of 1310 Concord Road,
husband of Bertha Smith Slater, died Wednesday at Anderson Memorial
Hospital after a long illness. Born in Albertville, Ala., he
was a son of the late Lee and Annie McClellan Slater. He was a
retired dry cleaner operator and a Methodist. He was a life
member of Barnette Masonic Lodge and had received his
50-year pin. Surviving are wife of the home; sister,
Edna S.Galloway of Geraldine, Ala.; several nieces and
nephews. Graveside services at 4 Friday at Concord Baptist
Church Cemetery by the Rev. Bob Marcaurelle. The body is at
Sullivan-King Mortuary. The family is at the home. The family

St.. widow of John Pickens Slater, died Dec. 28,1987, at Anderson
Memorial Hospital. Born, in Anderson. County, she was a daughter of
the late 0. Monroe and Nina Brown Smith. She was a homemaker; a
Methodist and attended Concord Baptist Church; Graveside services at
3 p.m. Tuesday at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Bob
Marcaurelle. The body is Sullivan-King Mortuary, where the
family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. The
family is at the home of nephew, Howard Smith, 1710 North Blvd. The

Carl B. Smith Carl
B. Smith, 65, died at 8:15 o'clock Sunday morning at his home in the
Welcome Community. He had been in bad health several weeks and
suffered a heart attack a few minutes before his death. Mr. Smith
was a native of Anderson County, born October 19, 1891, a son of the
late O. Monroe Smith and Nina Brown Smith. By occupation, he
was a farmer and a clerk in the Smith-McLeod Furniture Store.
He was a member and life deacon of Welcome Baptist Church and
teacher of the Men's Bible Class; also a member of the Woodmen of
the World. In addition to his wife, Mrs. Eva Copeland Smith, Mr.
Smith is survived by six daughters and two sons, Mrs. Beatrice
Seymaun of Greenville; Mrs. Sara McLeod, Mrs. Mary Alice Rampey and
Howard Smith, all of Anderson; Mrs. Catherine Brandon, of Pitsburg;
Mrs. Louise Wallace, of the Lebanon community; Mrs. Helen Boyd, of
Augusta, and Louis Smith, of LaFrance. He also leaves two
sisters, Mrs. Fred Hewin, of Atlanta, and Mrs. J. P. Slater, of
Anderson. Twenty-one grandchildren and one great-grandchld
also survive. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon
at 2 o'clock at Welcome Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Marion
Ware and Dr.Cert Flint. Burial will be in the Concord Church
cemetery. Pallbearers: Melvin Shirley, Bill Garrison, Virgil
Smith, Edward Garrison, Frank Welborn and Milledge Foster. The
honorary escort will be composed of members of the Men's Bible Class
of Welcome Baptist Church and the Ninety and Nine Suday School

Eva C. Smith PENDLETON - Mrs. Eva Copeland Smith, 99,
of Village Square Apts., widow of Carl B. Smith, died Tuesday, March
26,1991, at Anderson HealthCare Center. Born in Anderson
County, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Alice Kelley
Copeland. She was a homemaker and a member of Welcome Baptist
Church. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Surviving are sons, Howard M. Smith of Anderson -and Louis L. Smith
of LaFrance; daughters, Mrs. William E. (Beatrice) Seymour of
Greenville, Mrs. Melvin (Mary Alice) Rampey of Anderson, Mrs. John
(Catherine) Brandon of Pittsburg, Pa., Mrs. Meil (Louise) Wallace of
Pendleton and Mrs. Sam (Helen) Boyd of Augusta, Ga.; 24
grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; five
great-greadgrandchildren. Services are at 4 p.m. Thursday at
Sullivan-King Mortuary chapel by the Rev, Guy Overcash. Burial will
be in Concord Baptist Church cemetery. The body is at the

Howard
Smith ANDERSON - Howard Monroe Smith, 90, of 1710
North Boulevard, husband of Annie Laurie M. Smith, died Monday,
September 8, 2008 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born January
26,1918 in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Carl Brown
and Eva Copeland Smith. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II,
serving as a M.P. in the 551st Company. Mr. Smith was the
retired co-owner of Smifh-McLeod Furniture Company He was a member
of the Anderson Rotary Club, where he was recognized as a Paul
Harris Fellow and had over 40 years perfect attendance. He served on
the Board of Directors of the Salvation Army, Boys Club, and was a
Trustee of the Wil-Mary Apartments. He was a member of First
Baptist Church of Anderson, where he was a Life Deacon and was a
member and former teacher of the Howard Smith Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Annie Laurie Mullinnix Smith
of the home; children, Thomas Eugene Smith and his wife, Grace
Thompson Smith of Shelby, NC, Howard M. Smith, Jr. and his wife,
Shelley Cyphers-Smith of Duluth, GA, Janet Elaine Smith Arnold and
her husband, Robert Edward Arnold of Anderson, and Gregory Craig
Smith and his wife. Karen Owens Smith of Cheraw; eight
grandchildren, Thomas E. Smith, II, Julia Smith Shull. Lesley Lynn
Fanning, William Brandon Arnold, Timothy Derek Arnold, Jared
Alexander Smith, Ethan Andrew Smith, and Kyle Gregory Smith; seven
great grandchildren; and one sister, Louise Wallace of
Anderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death
by brother, Louis L. Smith, and five sisters, Beatrice Seymour, Sara
McLeod, Mary Alice Rampey. Catherine Brandon, and Helen Boyd.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist
Church conducted by Dr. James R. Thomason. Burial will be in Concord
Baptist Church Cemetery The family will receive friends from 1 until
2 p.m. Thursday at the church. The family is at the residence.

charlotte; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Smith of
Anderson; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wade H. Tompson of
Anderson; great-grandfather, W.R. Mullinnix of Anderson;
great-grandmother, Mrs. Carl B. Smith of Anderson. Graveside
services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the concord Baptist
Church Cemetery by the Rev. James P. Craine and Dr. O. R.
Wilson. The body is at the Sullivan-King Mortuary.

Funeral Funeral services for Monroe Smith, 80, were
held Sunday at Concord Baptist Church. Rev. E. C, White and Rev.
Ernest Bailes officiated. Burial was in Concord Cemetery.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Nina Brown Smith; one son, Carl B.
Smith; two daughters, Mrs. Fred Hewin and Mrs. J. P. Slater, of
Anderson; two brothers, Mordie Smith of Anderson, George Smith of
Charlotte, NC, three sisters, Mrs. Sally McDaniel, and Mrs. A. A.
Jolly of Anderson, and Mrs. D. T. West of Spartanburg; ten
grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Mr. Smith was a
farmer. He was a native of Anderson County and was a member of
Trinity Methodist Church. For many years he attended concord Baptist
Church where he taught the Men's Bible Class. Grandsons served

Mrs. Nina Smith Mrs. Nina Brown Smith, 81,
widow of O. Monroe Smith and a life long resident of Anderson
County, died at her home near Concord Church at 11:58 Monday
night. She had been ill for several months. Mrs. Smith
was a daughter of the late Rev. William Brown and Jane Hall Brown,
and was born Jan. 31, 1874. She spent practically all of her
lfie in the Concord section, and was a member of the Old Trinity
Methodist Church. She is survived by one son, Carl B. Smith of
the Welcome community; two daughters, Mrs. Fred Hewin of Atlanta,
Ga., and Mrs. J. P. Slater of the Concord community; two sisters,
Misses Myrtle and Kate Brown, both of Anderson; eight grandchildren
and a number of great-grandchildren. Her husband preceded her
to the grave Dec. 23, 1950. Funeral services will be held from
Concord Baptist Church today at 3 p.m. The Rev. J. M.
Haulbrook, pastor, will conduct the rites. Burial will be in
the Concord cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
Members of the Nina Smith and the Maude Knox Circles of the Concord
Woman's Missionary Society will form the escort of honor. The

Miss Smith Dies Early Last
Night Young Woman of Concorn Section Passes After Long
Illness Funeral Be Held This Afternoon. Miss Lareta Smith, 31
year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. Monroe Smith, died at their
home near Concord church at 7 o'clock last night following a long
period of illness. The untimely passing of Miss Smith, who
spent all of her life in the Concord section of the county, is
deeply deplored by relatives and friends alike. She was a member of
the Concord Baptist church. Surviving her in addition to her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Smith, are two sisters and one brother,
as follows: Carl B. Smith, Mrs. J. P. Slater and Mrs. F. A. Hewin,
all of this county. Funeral services will
be held from Concord church this afternoon at 4 o'clock,
with the Rev. S. C. White, in association with the Revs. J. W. Bell
and E. L. Kugley, conducting the services. The body will be laid to
final rest in the Concord church cemetery. Active pallbearers
will include Alvin Smith, Clem McClellan, Roy Griffin, Frank
Griffin, Prue Simpson, and Jasper King. McDongald-Bleckley Company,

Death of a Child Annie, the one-year old daughter
of Mr. W. P. Stevenson, who lives about two miles above the city,
died yesterday after a brief illness. The interment will take

W. P. STEVENSON Prof.
w. P. Stevenson, well known Anderson County citizen, music teacher
and composer of sacred songs, died at his home just north of the
city in the Concord section yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock.
Mr. Stevenson, affectionately known as "Uncle Billie" to hundreds of
friends throughout the city and section, was 82 years old. He
had been in declining health for the past several months, and
seriously ill the past few weeks. News of his passing, while
not altogether unexpected, will bring, sadness to a
countless number here and elsewhere who knew and loved him for his
kindly nature and genial disposition. Born and reared in
Anderson County, a son of the late Robert Stevenson and Salina Kay
Stevenson, he spent his entire life in this section, where he
engaged in farming during his active years. He was best known,
however, as a leader and writer of gospel songs. In connection
with this work to which he was most devoted, he received many
honors, having served as president of the Anderson County Singing
convention, the oldest and largest group of its kind in the county,
for more than quarter of a century. Follwing his retirement a few
years ago due to ill health, he was madehonorary president of the
organization. A devoted member of the concord Baptist Church,
he had for many years been actively identified with church and
Sunday school work, and in various endeavors for the betterment of
his community and county. He also served as a deacopn and song
leader of this church for many years. His wife, Mrs. Sarah
Smith Stevenson, whom he married in 1880, died on December 28, 1921,
eighteen years ago today. Surviving him are three sons and
three daughters. They are: W. O. Stevenson, of Sandy Springs,
M. M. Stevenson, of Pinellas, Fla., and Charles P. Stevenson, of
Anderson; Mrs. George E. Holland, of Fort Myers, Fla., and Mrs. J.
C. Mitchell, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Miss Ruth Stevenson, of New
York City. Fifteen grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren
also survive. Funeral services will be held from the Concord
Baptist Church Friday morning at 11 o'clock. The Rev. E. C.
White, the Rev. T. E. Dill, the Rev. C. V. Martin, and the Rev. W.
A. tinsley, will officiate. Interment will be in the church
cemetery, with McDougald-Bleckley Company, in charge.
Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers, and include William,
John and George Holland Jr., Conrad Mitchell, Robert Stevenson, and
Herbert Stevenson. Deacons of Concord Church will compose the
honorary escort. The body will be taken to the family
residence this afternoon to lie in state until the funeral.

Tollison John Ed Tollison, 71, of Rt. 10, was dead on
arrival at Anderson Memorial Hospital at 2:45 a.m. after a sudden
illness. A native of Anderson County, he was a retired post
office employee and members of W.O.W. and Concord Baptist Church, in
which he was very active. He was a son of the late Silas and
Della Davenport Tollison. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Fannie
Davis Tollison of the home; three sons, John Ed Tollison Jr., A.
Leroy and Grady H. Tollison, Anderson; five daughters, Mrs. Roy
Norton, Mrs. James Burriss, Mrs. Neal Yeargin, Mrs. Larry Whitmire,
all of Anderson, Mrs. Roy Pruitt, Pendleton; a sister, Mrs. Levi
Patterson, Pendleton; 27 grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted
Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church by the Revs. Bob

Fannie Tollison Mrs. Fannie
Davis Tollison, 74, of 304 Kings Road, died Monday morning at
Anderson Memorial Hospital. Born in Anderson County, she was a
daughter of the late William A. and Myrtis Allen Davis. She was a
member of Concord Baptist Church and the senior citizens group of
the church. Her husband was the late John Ed Tollison.
Surviving are sons, John Ed Tollison Jr., A. Leroy and Grady H.
Tollison of Anderson; daughters, Mrs. Roy (Lois) Norton, Mrs. James
(Doris) Burgess, Mrs. Neal (Frances) Yeargin and Mrs. Larry
(Barbara) Whitmire of Anderson, Mrs. Roy (Myrtis) Pruitt of
Pendleton; brothers Arthur Davis of Pelzer, John and Clyde Davis of
Anderson, George Ansel Davis of Greenville; sisters, Mrs. Evie Mae
Woodson of Piedmont, Mrs. Nettie Tollison of Williamston, Mrs. Annie
Robinson of Belton; 27 grand-children; nine
great-grandchildren. Services at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Concord
Baptist Church by the Revs. Bob Marcaurelle and Alvin D. Wall.

ARLIN WALLS Arlin Walls, 11 year old son of
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Walls of the Concord church section of the
county, died at the residence of his sister, Mrs. Addie Cobb, 470
Hayes street, this city, as 2:45 o'clock yesterday afternoon
following an illness ofa but one month. Besides the parents,
four brothers, R. E. Marvin, Ernest, and Paul Walls, all of the
Concord section; and four sisters, Mrs. Laura Gibson, Mrs. Winnie
Carnes and Mrs, Addie Cobb, of Anderson and Miss Clio Walls of
Lebanon; survive. Funeralservices will be held from the Lebanon
Baptist church this afternoon at 4 o'clock with the Rev. W. A.
Tinsley, pastor of the Riverside Baptist church; conducting the
services. Interment will be in the adjorning cemetery. Buurney

Mrs. Ada Wall Funeral services for
Mrs. Ada Wall, 52, who died at her home in the Concord section
yesterday morning following a brief illness, will be held this
afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Concord Baptist church conducted by
the Rev. Prue Kelly assisted by the Rev. J. C. Childress. The
body will be laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.
Arrangements are in charge of the Burney Funeral Home. Mrs.
Wall was a native of Georgia, but had lived in Anderson county 12
years. She was the wife of J. W. Wall. Surviving in
addition to her husband, are four sons, R. E. Marvin, Ernest and
Paul Wall, all of the Concord section, and four daughters, Mrs.
Larra Gibson, Mrs. Winnie Carnes, Mrs. Nannie Cob and Mrs. Cleo
Wall, of Anderson. Two brothers, Aaron and Grady Spivey, of
Clarksville, Ga., and California, respectively, also survive, as do
three sisters, Mrs. Nannie Nicholson and Mrs. Ella Wall of
Clarksville, and Mrs. Jade Eller of Towns county, Georgia.

James W.
Walls James W. (Jim) Walls, 82, of Rt. 6 Anderson,
died at his home on Robbins Drive at 7:04 a.m. yesterday
following an illness of 16 days. Mr. Walls, a retired farmer
was a native of Georgia and moved to Anderson from Townes County in
1923. He was born August 20, 1877, a son of the late Jim and
Mary Eller Walls, and was a member of Concord Baptist Church of
Anderson. His wife, Mrs. Ada Jane Spivey Walls, preceded him
to the grave in 1936. Surviving are four sons, Esco, James M.,
William Ernest, and Paul W. Walls, all of Anderson; four daughters,
Mrs. Laura Gibson, Mrs. Lloyd Carnes, Mrs. Doyle Cobb and Mrs. T. C.
Bruce, also of Anderson; a brother, Alfred Walls, Turnerville, Ga.;
a sister, Mrs. Maggie Nichols, Anderson; 37 grandchildren and 26
great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from
Concord Baptist church at 3 p.m. today. The Rev. Alvin D.
Wall, pastor, the Rev. Joel D. Hobbs, and te Rev. Max L. Atkins will
conduct the rites. Burial will be in the Concord
cemetery. Pallbearers: Jack Walls, Wenifred Gibson, Carl
Gibson, Dewitt Walls, Fred Brock and Harold Carnes. Members of
the Men's Bible Class and eacons of concord Baptist Church will form
the escort of honor. Flower Girls: Judy Holbrook, ruth

Shearer BELTON, Nov. 21—Marion Shearer, 22-year old
Belton resident, died in the Anderson Memorial Hospital at 10 a. m.
today following several months illness. Mr. Shearer was born in
Greenville, but spent most of his life in Belton. He was a son of
Mrs. Gertrude Erskine Shearer and the late J. C, Shearer, and leaves
a wide circle of relatives and friends who deplore his untimely
passing. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his widow,
Mrs.Bertie Long Shearer; one daughter, Dorcas Jane; two brothers,
Joseph of Belton and Clifford of Fort Mills; five sisters Mrs. A. W.
Bickle of Lake City, Mrs. O. R. Huskey of La Verne, Calif., Mrs. Roy
Shirley of Belton, Mrs. Alvin Greer of Belton and Mrs. John Smith of
Fleming, Ky. Funeral services will be held from the Bethany Baptist
Church Tuesday at 3:30 p. m. The Rev.Joe Carter, in association with
the Rev. W. L. Ball and the Rev. R. S. Wheeler will conduct the
services. Burial will follow in the Belton cemetery. Active
pallbearers will include Mack Henry Meeks, Joseph Russell, Charles
Thrift, Jim McColum, Furman Stone, and Don Weir. Composing the

H. Shirley BELTON. June 12— Rufus H Shirley, 71. well
known resident of Belton, died at Anderson Memorial Hospital tonight
at 7:45 after a period of illness extending over past month. He was
critically ill a week Mr. Shirley was a native and life long
resident of Anderson County, a son of the late Thomas A. Shirley and
Julia Clark Shirley, members of a well known Anderson County family.
For the past 17 years Mr. Shirley has been connected as a salesman
with the Ligon and Ledbetter Co. of Anderson. He was a member of the
Latimer Memorial Methodist Church of Belton. He is survived by five
brothers, Ernest R. Shirley and Cater Shirley, both of Belton; Tom
Shirley of Lakeland, Fla,; Walter Shirley of Columbia, and Fred
Shirley of Greenville; two sisters, Mrs. Percy Leach, Jr., of
Abbeville and Mrs. Walter Brown of Anderson; and several nieces and
nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Latimer Memorial
Church Saturday at 11 a. m. with the Rev. J. T. Haynes officiating.
Burial will be in the family plot In the Belton cemetery. Nephews
will serve as pallbearers. The body will remain at the Cox Funeral

C. Fletcher Sorrells C. Fletcher
Sorrells, 71-year-old textile worker of No. 6 P Street, died today
at 2:35 a.m. at Anderson Memorial Hospital following five months of
declining health. Mr. Sorrells, who had spent his entire life In
Anderson, except for 8 years in Seneca, was a native of Georgia and
a son of Richard Sorrells and Clarsle Sorrells, both of Georgia
families. He was a member of Oak wood Baptist Church His wife, the
late Eugenia Henry Sorrells, preceded him to the grave in 1944
Survivors include one daughter. Mrs. Henry P. Dove of Anderson; four
brothers, Jerome Sorrells. Seneca, Ashmore Sorrells, Tucapau, Norman
Sorrells. Atlanta, and Bennett Sorrells. Clarksville, Ga.; and one
sister, Mrs. Mattie Vela, Spartanburg. Funeral services will be held
from the Oakwood Baptist Church tomorrow at 4 p. m. conducted by the
Rev. Preston Garrett and the Rev. E. C. White. Burial will be in
Silver Brook cemetery; Active pallbearers: Robert Church.

J. B. TIDWELL J. B. Tidwell,
80- year-old resident of 112 K. Street, died at the Anderson County
Hospital yesterday morning at 7:30 o'clock following a long period
of declining health. Mr. Tidwell was held in high esteem by a large
number of relatives and friends, and the news of his
passing will be received with deep regrets. He is
survived by one son. Woodrow Tidwell, of Anderson, and seven
daughters, as follows: Mrs. Roy Hurts of Abbeville, Misses Eva,
Nellie, Lillie, Ethel, Carrie and Esther Tidwell, all of this city.
One brother, G. W. Tidwell. of Charleston, also survives. His wife,
the late Emma Sarah Bagley Tidwell. and a son. Bill Tidwell who
served as athletic director at Appleton Mills for a number of years,
preceded him to the grave. Funeral services
will be held from the family residence on K. Street this
afternoon at 5 o'clock, with Dr. Joe H. Carter, pastor
of Central Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will
be in Silver Brook cemetery,
with the McDougald-Bleckley Company,
funeral directors in charge. The pallbearers will include Pete
Connor, Eugene Shore, Andrew Dusen,
Jack Roberts, Boots Alewine. and Ernest Robinson. The honorary
