Robert Murrah Bailey
Served in
World War I, as 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army. Enlisted in the
30th Infantry Division. Transferred to Company A, 114 Infantry
Regiment, 29th Infantry Division after he we commissioned
Second Lieutenant in France. Killed in Action October 12,
1918.
Posthumous Cross Awarded The State March 19,
1919, page 2, col. 3 Special to The State Anderson,
March 18 - Oficial notice has been received that Lieut. Robert
Murrah Bailey will be given the post-humous cross for heroism
in action. Lieutenant Bailey was killed at Argonne
Forest, October 12, 1918. This cross will go to his
nearest relative, his mother, Mrs. Will Bailey.

35, Dies at Front
Master Sergeant Derrell Jones, 35, who made his home in
Anderson was killed in action somewhere in Germany on April
14. Sgt. Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Jones, of
Knoxville. He attended high school in Anderson and then
entered Clemson College, graduating in the class of
1930. |
