GYSGT Raymond L. Cook, Jr., 77, husband of Ethel Kupske Cook, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at his residence. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 9, 2008 from 3-5 at Anderson Funeral Home with Masonic Rites. Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, March 10, 2008 at 2:00pm in Beaufort National Cemetery with full military honors. Mr. Cook was born on July 22, 1930 in Pittsburgh, PA. He is the adopted son of the late Raymond Cook, Sr and Ethel Cook and the biological son of Mary Murtagh. Mr. Cook was a member of the Port Royal Masonic Lodge #242, a life member of the DAV and a member of AmVets. Mr. Cook served our country for over 24 years in the USMC and the US Army, earning the Good Conduct Medal w/4 stars, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation Gallantry Cross w/Palm, Korean Service Medal w/3 Bronze Stars and Bronze Star Medal. Surviving in addition to his wife of Beaufort, SC; are two sons, Donald R. Cook of Beaufort, SC and Thomas J. Cook and wife Beverly of Pineland, SC; one daughter, Karen O'Neill of Beaufort, SC; two grandchildren, 1st SGT Sean P. O'Neill, USMC and SGT Shannon M. Sutton, USA and one great grandchild.The family suggests that donations be made to Friends of Caroline Hospice of Beaufort, 1110 13th Street, Port Royal, SC 29935. Herman Cooler Jr.

WESTCHESTER, Pa. -Graveside services for Herman Eugene Cooler Jr., 53, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Maye River Cemetery, Pritchardville. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Sauls Funeral Home.

Mr. Cooler died Friday. Born in Portsmouth, Va., he was a son of the late Herman Eugene Cooler Sr. and Jean Marie Cooler.

Surviving are his wife, Amy A. Cooler; daughters, Cheryl Powell of Beaufort, Robin Cooler of North Carolina, Lauren Cooler of Glen Mills, Pa.; brothers, Ronald Cooler of Crestview, Fla., Gary Cooler of Stateboro, Ga.; sister, Patsy Hibbs of Winter Springs, Fla., Donna Cooler of St. Louis; five grandchildren. Mrs. M. P. Cain
Funeral service for Mrs. M. P. Cain, 75, who died shortly after noon yesterday at her residence, 102 Ribaut Road, after a lengthy illness, will be conducted Thursday morning at 10 o'clock from Morrall Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery. 
Officiating will be Dr. George A, Jones, pastor of the Baptist Church of Beaufort, of which Mrs. Cain was a member. Prior to her last illness Mrs. Cain was also an active member of the Eastern Star.  Survivors include her husband, Sgt. M. P. (Pop) Cain, (ret.); one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Irena Tarr, Mossy Oaks, Beaufort; one grandchild, several nieces and nephews.  The Cains have been residing at their Ribaut Road home since Sergeant Cain's retirement in 1945. For 18 years prior to that time they resided on Parris Island, where he was stationed.  Since his retirement he has been connected with the U. S. Naval Hospital as gardener and grounds keeper. Helen Lawton Cain
Mrs. Helen Lawton Cain, wife of Marlin P. Cain, of 102 Ribaut Road, died Wednesday in a Savannah nursing home.  Funeral was Friday at 2 p.m. At Baptist Church of Beaufort, directed by Anderson Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Evergreen Cemetery.  Mrs. Cain was born in Charleston, Oct. 29, 1903. She was a graduate of Roper Hospital Nursing School in 1924. She retired in 1945. Six years prior to retirement, she was associated with Beaufort Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Baptist Church ofBeaufort.  Surviving are her husband; two sisters, Mrs. Sally Squire of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Mrs. Cathleen Talbert of New York; one brother, Charles Blitch of New York. (Beaufort  Gazette, p3, December 28, 1967 - contributed by Lois Anderson)

Marlin P. Cain
Marlin Price Cain, 84, of 102 Ribaut Rd. died Thursday in a local hospital.  The funeral services were held at 11 a. m. Monday at the Anderson Funeral Chapel. Burial, with full military honors, was in the U. S. National Cemetery.

Mr. Cain was born in Fort Deposit, Ala. Oct. 10, 1885, a son of the late William A. and Barbara Killough Cain. He was retired from the Marine Corps as a master sergeant after 31 years of service. He was in charge of the post farm on Parris Island.

He retired from civil service work after 15 years as superintendent of roads and grounds at the U. S. Naval Hospital. He was a member of the Beaufort Baptist Church and Harmony Lodge 22 AFM.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Helen Parr of Santa Maria, Calif; two brothers Paul M. Cain of Marietta, Ga., and James O. Cain of Bessemer, Ala., two sisters, Mrs. Frank Weldman of Birmingham, Ala., and Mrs. Nicklus Mavrideh of Mt. Shasta, Calif.  (Beaufort Gazette, p 9, may 13, 1971 - contributed by Lois Anderson)

Albert Cory Jr.
MT. PLEASANT - Services for Albert Henry Cory Jr. are 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church with burial in St. Helena's Episcopal Church Cemetery, both in Beaufort. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Monday at Anderson Funeral Home, Beaufort. Born in Beaufort to the late Albert Sr. and Maud Douglas Steinmeyer Cory, he died September 26, 2003. Surviving are wife, Louisa Freeman Cory; son, Albert Cory; daughter, Jean Cory; stepsons, Charles, John Macloskie; sister. (The State - September 28, 2003)

Maud Cory
SUMMERVILLE - Services for Maud Douglas Steinmeyer Cory, 94, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort with burial in St. Helena's Episcopal Church Cemetery. Anderson Funeral Home is in charge.

Mrs. Cory, widow of Albert Cory Sr., died December 19, 2001. She was a daughter of the late Dr. William Steinmeyer and Alma Gantt Steinmyer.

Surviving are sister, Alma Steinmeyer; son, Albert Cory Jr.; daughter, Caroline Coslick; grandchildren, Albert Cory III, Cory Fleming and Jean Fowlkes; great grandchildren, Michael Fowlkes Jr. and Caroline Fleming. (The State - December 21, 2001)

Col. Morris Cooke 
BEAUFORT - Services for Colonel Morris Dawes Cooke, U.S. Marine Corps, Ret., 77, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 1999, at St. Helena's Episcopal Church, with burial in the church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at the residence, 51 Shipwright Circle, Port Royal 29935. Memorials may be made to The Preservation for St. Helena's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1043, Beaufort 29901. Copeland Funeral Home, Beaufort, is in charge.

Col. Morris, husband of Georgianna Hasell McTeer Cooke, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at his residence. Born in Chestnut Hill, Pa., March 2, 1922, he was a son of the late George Johnes Cooke and Elizabeth Meade Cooke. He was the great grandson of Major General George Gordon Meade, who commanded the Grand Army of the Potomac at Gettysburg. He was also a descendant of Nicolas Cooke, Governor of Rhode Island at the outbreak of the Revolutionary War and J.W. Cooke, an Episcopal Bishop of Rhode Island. He was a graduate of St. Paul's School of Concord, N.H., and attended Princeton University and Cornell University under the Navy V-12 Program in World War II. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps in 1945. He served at Guam, in North China and at various posts throughout the East Coast and as the Commanding Officer, Marine Barracks, Naval Station, Argentina, Newfoundland. He commanded a rifle company in Korea and served as Deputy Intelligence Officer for the Third Marine Amphibious Force in Vietnam. He was Director of the Marine Corps Command Center and served on the staff of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. His last assignment was the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina, where he retired in 1974. Since that time he served on the Vestry of St. Helena's Episcopal Church and as a Senior Warden.

Surviving are his wife, Georgianna Hasell McTeer Cooke of Port Royal; daughter, Elizabeth Meade Cooke of Port Royal; son, Morris Dawes Cooke Jr. of Mount Pleasant; three grandchildren. (State, The (Columbia, SC) - April 23, 1999)

Katherine Chakides

BEAUFORT - Services for Katherine H. Chakides, 97, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Helena's Episcopal Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Copeland Funeral Home is in charge.

Mrs. Chakides, widow of Harry Chakides, died February 25, 2002. She was born in Mytilene. Lesvos, Greece.

Surviving are sons, John Chakides Sr., George Chakides, Harry Chakides Jr.; daughters, Electra Julias, Mary Koutroulakis; sisters, Themis Demosthenes, Eugenia Brandi; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. (State, The (Columbia, SC) - February 26, 2002)

Wilson Causey

FROGMORE - Services for Wilson Wayne Causey, 53, of 215 Fripp Point Road, will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Helena Baptist Church with burial in Evergreen Cemetery directed by Copeland Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Friends of Caroline Hospice, 1110 13th Street, Port Royal, SC 29935.

Mr. Causey died Saturday, August 12, 2000, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Born in Charleston, he was a son of the late Howell Wilson Causey and Mary Lee Bowen Causey. He was a member of St. Helena Baptist Church where he was a Baptist Royal Ambassador Leader. He was a charter member of Sea Island Rescue Squad and a life member of the South Carolina Shrimper's Association. He was a shrimper for 30 years with Porpoise Fish Company and the former owner of Lowcountry Deck Builders.

Surviving are his wife, Patty Gay Causey of Frogmore; daughters, Lisa Gay Causey Myers of Summerville, Sharon Michele Causey of Beaufort; sister, Patricia Gale Bonds of Bamberg; brother, Howell Glenn Causey of Beaufort; five grandchildren. (State, The (Columbia, SC) - August 14, 2000)
