SSGT. Edward A.
Orford, USMC Retired SSGT. Edward A. Orford, USMC,
Retired, 83, died February 28, 2008 at Broad Creek Care Center, Hilton
Head Island. Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, March 10,
at 12:30pm at the Beaufort National Cemetery with full military honors.
Mr. Orford was born on September 3, 1924 in Youngstown, Ohio. He served in
the USMC for twenty four years, retiring from active duty in 1966 and
continued in Civil Service on Parris Island working Traffic Management
until 1986. Affectionately known as "The Big O", he was a well-known
bartender and instructor of Bartending at the Technical College of the Low
country. He bartended many private and public functions for several years.
He was a proud member of VFW 8760 and AmVets Post 70. He is survived by
his seven children, Anne Waller of Stafford, VA, David E. Orford of
Beaufort, Elizabeth Beth Capen of Leeds, ME, Edward A. Orford of
Woodbridge, VA, John S. Orford of Bluffton, Kevin Orford of Hilton Head
Island, Maureen Heroux of Beaufort, twelve grandchildren, six great
grandchildren, two brothers, John Lesisz of Portland, OR, Stanley Lesisz
of San Bernardino, CA and his partner in living and travel, Lorena Bennett
of Port Royal, SC. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth
E. Orford. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans, c/o Ron
Vogeli, 702 Battery Creek Rd., Beaufort, SC 29902. Anderson Funeral Home
