Julia Rhodes Porter
One by one the older heads are passing away. The
death last Friday of Mrs. Julia Rhodes Porter, aged 76, was not altogether
unexpected, as she had been quite feeble for some time. Deceased was the
relict of Mr. Joseph Porter, and was considered very beautiful in her
youth. Even in her advanced age her gentle features retained the marks of
early comeliness. Mrs. Porter left a daughter and numerous relatives. The
greatest sympathy is felt for the lonely daughter, who had been all her
life the companion of her mother. In the presence of a large number of
friends, the last solemn rites of the church were conducted Saturday
evening in St. Helena Church, the rector, Rev. W. L. Githens, officiating.
The remains were laid to rest by the side of the partner of her youth.
Tributes, in the form of beautiful floral designs were profuse. The pall
bearers were Messrs. R. R. Sams, S.C. Cunningham, Thomas Talbird, J. M.
Rheit, H. T. Danner and W. H. Lockwood, Jr. (Palmeto Post, May 2, 1901 -
