Robert S. Cochrane, chief
pharmacist's mate. United States Navy, attached to 6th Machine Gun
Battalion, United States Marine Corps. For extraordinary heroism in
action near St Ktienne, France, October 3-4, 1918. He continued to
dress wounded when the area in which be was working was swept by
machine-gun fire. He was an example of coolness to all during 48
hours of continuous shell fire, never hesitating to expose himself
to danger when assistance was needed. Residence at enlistment:
Hichburg, S.C. (unable to find the town 'Hichburg'...may be a typo -
could this be Richburg?)
*Robert M. Wilson (Army serial
No. 1311934), private, Company I. 118th Infantry. For
extraordinary heroism in action near Brancourt, France, October 8,
1918. Pvt. Wilson. who was a Lewis gunner, encountered an enemy
machine-gun nest containing four Germans, who were inflicting heavy
mcasualties on the right platoon of the company. He opened fire with
his Lewis gun and then chargeed the nest, firing as he advanced and
killing all the occupants of the post. On October 17, 1918.,
Pvt. Wilson was killed while on duty with his company.
