TRANSCRIBER NOTE: Halcott Jones Pride
was born Halcott Pride Jones (son of Cadwallader Jones and Mary Pride),
and died with the surname of Pride as a result of an inheritance directive
of his only maternal uncle Halcot Briggs Pride: "Bequests condition that
they severally assume, after they attain full age, the surname of Pride."
His brother, Frederick Lafayette Jones had a separate bequest with the
same directive, and so became Frederick Lafayette Jones Pride.
Halcott inherited a plantation in Northampton
Co. whereon I now live known as Monte Cailloux, Longs Island in Roanoke
River. The plantation had been given the same name as that of
the Petersburg, Virginia plantation. In 1813 the family moved from North
Carolina to the Catawba.
Note: Will of Halcott Briggs
Pride dated 24 November 1794, and proved Northampton County, North
Carolina Court, December 1795.
