3 Sergt. Herbert F. Bethea Latta, March 11 - Latta was
saddened to learn of the death of Sergt. Herbert F. Bethea at
Camp Jackson. while he had been sick for abut three
weeks, his condition was not considered critical until a few
days before he died.
Sergeant Bethea entered the
service last spring and came home on only one furlough.
The remains were brought to Latta last Tuesday and lain to
rest in the Latta Cemetery in the presence of one of the
largest assembilies ever seen in Latta. He was 30 years
of age. His parents having died in his early youth, he
was reared by his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Laurin Bethea,
with whom he made his home until the time of his
enlistment. He was gratuate of Clemson College.
Three sisters and one brother survive him; Mrs. Tracy Henry of
Latta, Mrs. Joe Meadows and Miss Sallie Bethea of Little Rock
and Lieut. Palmer Bethea. (obituary courtesy of Clemson
