A, SCV.  Born 13th Nov, 1844; residence - Edgefield in Edgefield Co, SC.  Signed 29th of March, 1919, R. M. Derrick. Witnessed by J. P. Cullum, A. C. Mayer - resides in this State (SC) all his life.

Pension Application #11242, Sumter Co, SC - signed Henry Pickens Rauton.  State of SC, Sumter Co, SC: enrollment under the act of 1919, enlisted in Co. A, 22 Regiment of SCV infantry, Capt Adams, Jan 1862 until captured at
Petersburg, April 3, 1865.  Born July 24, 1842; resides in Sumter, Sumter Co., SC.; wounded in the right thigh, June 1864, incapacitated from service for about sixty days. Witnessed by J. Russell Wright and M. W. Clark of Edgefield Dist, SC.
Official information: this veteran was approved by the local and state board in 1911 and pension paid up to1918. [Note by transcriber: this may indicate that his move to Sumter SC did not take place until 1918 - Earlier in 1919.  I have him as the son of.my gggg-grandparents.]

JOHN B. HOLLOWAY

State of SC, McCormick Co - John B. Holloway #8163
He states: He enlisted in Co. I/J Regiment of the 24th Battalion under Capt Lafayette Weaver on Feb. 4th, 1863 and served in that command until April 26, 1865. I was discharged from the service at Greesboro, NC on 26th April 1865 and at that time was a member of Co.l I, 24th SCV He was born Jan 12, 1845 and resides in McCormick in McCormick Co, SC. My present health is Good. Signed Marh 31, 1919 by John B. Holloway.
Witnesses: McCormick Co, SC - S. S. McBride and J. A. [Deal] verified his service and states he has lived in the State of SC for 73 years.

[Note from transcriber: I have quite a few John Holloways with no middle name, but only one John B. Holloway. Connection to the following John B. Holloway is made based on the year of birth and the fact that he is buried in McCormick Co. I have no other proof that they are the same.]

I was born Oct 21, 1845. I reside in Chappells in Newberry Co, SC . My health is fairly good... was wounded in right foot _______ on James River, 1864. Sworn to April 19, 1919 /s/ Dr. W. J. Holloway.  Witnesses J. R. Irwin and W. L. Andrews swore the above was true and that he had resided in SC all his life.

Enlisted in Company Co, 6th Batallion of SC under Capt. Ira Cromley on Dec 1, 1864 and served until April 1, 1865. He was discharged from the service at Greensboro, NC on May 12, 1865 at which time he was a member of Co. (K). I was born Dec 20, 1847 and I reside in Greenwood, Greenwood Co, SC. /s/ Oct 19, 1919, "Ira Thomas Roton" Co. of Lexington, Witnessed and verified by (Joab) Edwards and Arthur Rufus Dean, Oct. 23, 1919. Approved by John F____, Probate Judge of Greenwood Co, Oct 25, 1919.

A later Transfer Blank was filled out indicating that he moved to Newberry Co. in early 1925:

Feb, 1925 - PENSION APPLICATION #8651, Transfer form for Ira T. Roton, from  Greenwood Co. to Newberry Co., SC. He now resides in Prosperity, Newberry Co, SC. He was placed in Class B. His health was good. The service record is
more complete than the original as it states that he served in Co. K, 7 SC  Regiment, SC Volunteers. Same Birthdate is given.

[Note from transcriber: This is one of the Rotton faiimles where we find a variety of spellings in the family thru the years. Throughout the census records that I have on his father David Loveless Rotton uses the ROTTON spelling. Most of he desc. seem to prefer the ROTON spelling and some use the RHODEN spelling.]

The following applies for enrollment under the Act of 1919. I am the widow of Andrew Pickens Burnett who enlisted in Co. K, 2nd Batallion, Artillery under Capt. Culbreath in 1861. He served until the last day of 1865 [assume she means last day of the war] She states that he got home May 2, 1865 and at that time he was in Co. K under Capt.. Waters. They were married Dec 20, 1866. He died April 2, 1915. Wife is 80 years old and resides in Greenwood, Greenwood Co, SC, where she has lived since Dec. 1875. /s/ M. (F) Burnett, Jan 24, 1922.  [Strange.... the probate office seems to be Anderson Co., NC??]
Proved (Co. not given) by R. P Pinson and F. M. Yarborough. John Philemon, probate Judge of Greenwood Co. signed Jan 22, 1922.

Widows Pension #5878 MARY ELLEN DEAN

She states: I am the widow of Arthur Rufus Dean who enlisted in Co. G, 6th Regiment, SC Reserves under Capt. Ira Cromley on Sept. 30, 1864 and served until April 1865. He was discharged from the service at Greenwboro, NC on
May 2, 1865 and at that time was a member of Company G, 7th /regiment of SCV Infantry. He was born Feb 17, 185_. He and his wife married Feb. 17, 1876.
He died on Nov 26, 1922. At the time of the application, Mary Ellen Dean was 71 yrs. old and resided in Greenwood, Greenwood Co, SC. She has lived in Greenwood since Jan 1901.

Proven by Ira Thomas Roton of Co. K., 7th SCV and Wm. _ Yeldell, Co. K, 7th SC Infantry who swore that they know Mrs. Mary Ellen Dean as the wife of Arthur Rufus Dean and that he was a private in Co. G 7th Regiment of SCV,
and that she has lived in the State for 71 years.
