Gaines Gleanings-- "It was the
writer's sad privilege to attend the funeral services of Mrs. Mary
Lewis and little John Trapp, son fo Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Cook, at Mt.
Creek Church on Thursday last. The flower lqided bier,
containing all that was mortal of the 18th month old baby and the
aged grandmother of 77 years, presented a striking example of the
fact that the young as well as the old must die, and that Death with
his keen sucke gathers the buds with the full blossoms. The
consolatiion remarks of the officiating clergyman, Rev. G. W.
Bussey, and the profuse floral offeriings, attested to the loving
sympathy of numbereless freinds, brough untold comfort to many
stricken hearts.
Contributors note: Her death was mentioned again in
the Greenwood Journal published on May 27, 1897, p2
Kirksey, SC, May 24, 1897 -- Our community has been
saddened during the last two weeks by the death of Mrs. Mary Lewis,

on May 11, and was buried at Mt Creek church. Mrs. Lewis has
been a sufferer for several months, and while her death was
expected, yet her three daughters and many friends deeply feel their
loss. She was a member of Mt. Creek church from early
childhood."
