pg. 611 Joseph Henry Foster, Lancaster, S.C., of French and English ancestry born in Washaw, Lancaster co., S.C., April 20th, 1835; educated at Mount Zion School, Winsboro, S.C., and at the South Carolina coll., from which he graduated in Dec. 1855; studied medicine at the New Orleans medical school, and graduating M.D. in April, 1860, settled in Washaw, and afterwards in Lancasterville. Among his operations may be mentioned that he has twice re-sected the right wrist-joint.....He is a member of the S.C. med. asso., and was its vice-president in 1876. He was a surg. in the 5th S.C. reg. inf., Longstreet's corps, Confederate States army, from July 1862, to April 1865. In Nov. 1869, he married Lottie R. Brown.
